I agree that this is a good family film, and that if I were a kid I would absolutely love this. But when I saw it, I found it a bit disappointing. The flaws that I would overlook as a kid showed too much to me.

I wan't to see a great fantasy adventure story where a kid finds a secret world full of fantastic creatures and has to help save it as much as Carlyle does. It's those kinds of stories I've loved since I was a kid and would like to relive that sense of wonder and adventure again. But this film for me just felt like it fell a bit short, like there were some things about the magic world I wish the film could have shown more of or given more dept to but didn't. It just gave me that "is that all there is?" feeling.

I actually liked Bridge to Terrabithia (referring to the audio review). I totally agree with what you said about how they marketed it. I got the impression it was gonna be another lack-luster kid finds magical world show cashing in on a popular trend, but when I saw it on tv I was pleasantly surprised.

Fantasy has always appealed to girls as much as boys. It's just specific kinds of fantasy that tends to appeal to different genders. I freakin loved the Hallmark fantasy movies like that one about Merlin, the Hercules/Xena and Robin Hood tv series growing up.

Although I don't really think Spiderwick "ripped off" Coraline.

Jasmin Holmes, try to think about things before you post them...Coraline was originally a book that was written BEFORE the original Spiderwick Chronicles novel. Spring is right.

I completely agree. This is storytelling at its finest. The computer animation is at its finest and does justice to the original drawings. The story is perfect family entertainment and just a joy to experience. Full Price!

This movie wasn't that faithful to the books but I still thought it was an excellent movie that I would see again. Full Price.
