If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Thinking of lesser known psychopath movies, Maniac (1980) starring Joe Spinell sprang to mind! Crazy little movie with a really creepy yet believable main character, great Tom Savini gore effects and a fuckin crazy ending - worth checking out!
Yeah they're video-game guys, but I think this can apply to what you wanna do as a horror filmmaker as well.
The lower the budget, the more important your script becomes because (theoretically) that's basically the best thing you got. Any production value limitations can be overcame if that part's on-point, so make sure your story is rock-solid and your characters are at the very least TOLERABLE and MILDLY capable; as opposed to the shrill, annoying, tripping-over-their-own-two-feet fuckwits who's only purpose is to scream and run like every other cheap horror flick. Just...fucking TRY is all anyone can ask for.
Watch something like Halloween or Psycho if you're going the psychopath route. Good examples of ways you could handle this; the mysterious entity you don't know anything about that just wants to kill you just Because vs. the killer you get to know/the killer you get to understand WHY they became a killer.
Oh yeah speaking of which...Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Should still be on Netflix instant if you got it. That's a good one too.
I want to make a film with a psychopath. I like supernatural horror but I feel that it adds tension when the situation feels more realistic. I also think that films are scarier when psychological.
Well what kind of movie is this you are thinking about making? Zombies? Demons? Psychopaths?
I've seen Evil Dead and am a big fan, but I was hoping to draw from lesser known films.
...Watch The Evil Dead :P! I have no idea I always wanted to make a Independent horror movie...
Yes; because I am making a low budget horror film I would like to see other examples, preferably films that aren't well known.
