That akward moment when I know more about 50 shades of grey, than most white people I know.

You wouldn't like 50 shades of grey, there over 40 people in the series and most are white and it takes place in 2011 USA so lack of diversity is noticable and concerning. Friends is mainly a white people thing from what I know, because as a black male I've rarely met a non-white person who speaks of friends in a "I love that show! *qoutes something from it*" way. but a lot of white people do like it like that.

To be honest, the only reason I knew what Fifty Shades of grey was was because of all the adverts, I've never heard anyone talk about it! To use an exampled I'm familiar with, Friends by your logic, is a "white people" thing because it features mostly white people and I never heard a coloured person talk about it and maybe it is!

I have a problem when a person is given a job or included for no other reason than their ethnicity, but I believe FICTIONAL characters and stories should be as diverse as circumstances allow (and I've been called ignorant for thinking so)!

Perhaps the circumstances of Fifty Shades of grey allowed for little diversity? Not everything can be Modern Family!

Who do you see most talking about the 50 shades series in terms of articles about its impact, fandom and infamy in a few cases(the woman divorcing her husband for not wanting to try anything from the book)? Answer for me, overwhelmingly white people. If you've seen a boom in non white fans then I guess its a general people thing.the white thing for me is partially reflected in the book's cast which over 3 books has only about 5 characters you can discribe as non-white and only 3 are on more than a few pages and have active roles in the story.

Arsene, I'm not making a stupid joke or being sarcastic, but why is Fifty Shades of grey a "white people" thing? It's an erotic story set in America as written by a Brit, wouldn't that make it a "people" thing or at least an "American" or possibly "British" thing?
