Okay, Adam Lanza and James Holmes: no, they probably wouldn't qualify as insane from a psychiatric perspective. They'd probably be described as having had a mood disorder or something like that, and nothing more. But, that's the nature of the psychiatry world now. It still doesn't change the fact that these guys act in irrational manners. It still doesn't change the fact that they're all psychopaths (which, thankfully the FBI still classifies some people as). And, many of these perpetrators? They DO have violent pasts. Unfortunately, they're expunged from records after they turn 18, their histories are swept under the rug by 'helicopter parents', or some variation thereof.
That sounds good and all but what if those people are deem not insane? I think many famous murderers didnt have a violent past and deemed 'sane' by doctors. They successfully bought guns and killed people. This is a grey area that needs to be worked on real bad, what you said sound pretty assuring, however I'll believe it when I see it.
Oh, believe me, such things would continue. Bombings or shootings with illegal firearms would take their place. It's not like these perpetrators are stupid. Remember, Adam Lanza, Seung-Hui Cho, James Holmes, all of them were SMART people. Trying to control guns would only penalize the 88 Million gun owners in America who don't break laws. Not all people who own guns are criminals. We should be addressing the Mental Health issue, as all homicidal lunatics are criminals. At the very least, and I think you'll agree with me on this, with each new shooting, a new layer of the gun control debate is brought into the discussion. With Virginia Tech, it's the notion of how legitimate insanity plays a role in being able to buy a gun. With Aurora, it's the notion that unlimited amounts of ammo, and in some cases weapons parts, can be anonymously bought online. With this, it brings up the notion of personal responsibility with regards to family or friends who are insane.
It doesnt solve this, true but at least tragic things like this would not happen as often. Its true that an insane person would go out of his way to obtain firearms illegally, make it hard for him to do so thus increasing the chance of him getting caught while doing it. Aurora and this is just too much, why dont we try controlling guns and see what happens cuz this doesnt work at all.
