Sin City isen't really a film, its like cosplay and the fan film genre get stuck in the closet for seven minutes in heaven that turn into a long drawn out marriage. and with the release of the spirit next year this pile o' crap is gonna be a laughing stock, simply because it supplied miller with the captial to make such a cop-out.
this isen't art, it's an ok use of the digital meduim, 300 was close to art, but no cigar. personally i've always had a hardtime believing either of the bozos involved in this film had ever read the source material, it really seems like one of RR's ten thousand kids must've been taking a piss on his head after having sat through spy kids 3-d and just happended to be reading a sin city comic. drenched and nearing the end of said leak, rr exclaimed i'll make what your reading just stop!
i mean think about it; we have to believe QT and RR could stop masterbating over B movies in general long enough to actually read all of sin city and talk to an actual writer about making his comic into a film. i'll vote for big foot before i believe this scene.
simply put: being one of the first r-rated comic book flicks and cgi flicks and being probably the best thing RR will ever do, doesn't make this a great movie. it really seems like it should have been on HBO.
Reservoir Dogs however old and outmodded it is, is still an ok film to watch.
but not in any bizarro universe should it ever be considered one of the best films ever made. tarentino is not a filmmaker to me, he's a fan-filmmaker with money. everything he's made is a tribute to something else, right out the gate he was making films that where supposed to be like another series of films he'd seen.
his choice in actors was quite fine in the beginning, but as we've gotten on in the years, it's really turned into a please save my career yardsale. anyways on with the show: this disjointed mess is about a bank heist that went wrong due to the fact that they happened to include a friggin mole on their team and a friggin nut.
aside from the friggin nut; this story is probably engraved on a cave wall somewhere. it's been done to death and after this it was bent over and done some more.
first off, people can dislike movies other people(or the masses in this case) have huddled together and given a stamp of greatness to.
i'll explain my reasoning for each if you'd like:
Pulp Fiction,Reservoir Dogs,Sin City:
when it comes to Tarantino and Rodriguez, i've lost all respect for them in recent years. due to the fact that all they've managed to turn out is the same piles of crap that they started out with. it's one thing to get your start by reimagining old crappy genres with high caliber actors and graphic violance. it's another thing if in the years to come you don't mature as a film maker and apply your style to another genre and actually make a film that wasn't inspired by some old piece of crap flick from the seventies.
if you actually took off your "people think this is great blinders" and watched pulp fiction you'd see that aside from ol samuel mutherfuckin jackson, the flick is dogshit. if edited in a normal fashion and presented in a non-tweeked out perspective. this wouldn't even rank with the worst of the worst lifetime specials.
it's sloppy loosed ended, dribble about people no one should relate to, plus this hyper-active video store geek dialoq as supplied by tarentino is friggin clown shoes after your one hundrenth viewing. and yes i've seen that movie over a hundred times.
