When an actor has come to be associated with one role for a long enough period of time, the feeling of restlessness is inevitable and fully understandable. What is a bit more unusual is when that actor grows weary of a high-profile role after only two outings as that character. However, such seems to be the case with Zachary Quinto and the role of Spock. The actor's second turn as the legendary Vulcan, 'Star Trek Into Darkess,' hasn't even seen the release of its first trailer, and already Quinto seems keen to move on to something new. In a recent interview, Quinto mentioned that, career-wise, he's ready to move in a different direction after next summer's release of J.J. Abrams' second 'Star Trek'movie. He stated...
"It's like an era of association with certain roles - a specific part like Spock, or a kind of part, like Sylar — is coming to an end."
I respect the hell out of Zachary Quinto for so many reasons, but for entirely selfish reasons I wish he would reconsider this. He is so damn good as Spock in the Abrams Trek universe, and that franchise doesn't exactly have a quickly-approaching expiration date. He could theoretically play this role for many many years, especially given he's only the second actor to play The Enterprise's science officer/first officer at all. Leonard Nimoy not only played Spock through multiple seasons on TV, but also in six movie iterations. But then again, most people would be hard pressed to come up with another character that Nimoy has played in his long, illustrious career. Perhaps that is exactly what Quinto is trying to avoid, and I guess I can understand that. It just seems like his fear of being limited by this role is cropping up rather quickly. Give it a couple more movies at least, Zach. But again, I only make that request because I want to see more of his adventures as the stoic icon.
What do you guys think? Are you disappointed that Quinto's reign as Spock appears to be drawing to a close? Though it's still early yet, who would you suggest as a suitable replacement?

Comment by Daedalus Ciarán on November 20, 2012 at 2:20pm About six months after the first film he said he wanted to give Spock a rest, meaning as something he wanted to talk about or be associated with, and every media outlet jumped on it saying he was quitting forever, ignoring context and simply quoting one line, or paraphrasing it, ad infinitum. Cannot help the feeling of deja vú.

Comment by patmander on November 20, 2012 at 1:11pm Sad to say, this might be the last thing we will see with Zachary. Has he done anything between Heroes and Star Trek? Better off asking Neil Patrick Harris for carrer advise.
