When an actor has come to be associated with one role for a long enough period of time, the feeling of restlessness is inevitable and fully understandable. What is a bit more unusual is when that actor grows weary of a high-profile role after only two outings as that character. However, such seems to be the case with Zachary Quinto and the role of Spock. The actor's second turn as the legendary Vulcan, 'Star Trek Into Darkess,' hasn't even seen the release of its first trailer, and already Quinto seems keen to move on to something new. In a recent interview, Quinto mentioned that, career-wise, he's ready to move in a different direction after next summer's release of J.J. Abrams' second 'Star Trek'movie. He stated...
"It's like an era of association with certain roles - a specific part like Spock, or a kind of part, like Sylar — is coming to an end."
I respect the hell out of Zachary Quinto for so many reasons, but for entirely selfish reasons I wish he would reconsider this. He is so damn good as Spock in the Abrams Trek universe, and that franchise doesn't exactly have a quickly-approaching expiration date. He could theoretically play this role for many many years, especially given he's only the second actor to play The Enterprise's science officer/first officer at all. Leonard Nimoy not only played Spock through multiple seasons on TV, but also in six movie iterations. But then again, most people would be hard pressed to come up with another character that Nimoy has played in his long, illustrious career. Perhaps that is exactly what Quinto is trying to avoid, and I guess I can understand that. It just seems like his fear of being limited by this role is cropping up rather quickly. Give it a couple more movies at least, Zach. But again, I only make that request because I want to see more of his adventures as the stoic icon.
What do you guys think? Are you disappointed that Quinto's reign as Spock appears to be drawing to a close? Though it's still early yet, who would you suggest as a suitable replacement?

One Star Trek movie every two to three years should be good. Chris Pine had a bunch of different movies come out after Star Trek, but I think Quinto is less marketable and might be typecast more.
Comment by Joanne on November 24, 2012 at 2:51pm Sometimes I wonder whether some of these actors that are put into an iconic role like this either can't handle the pressure, or feel that they are now above it. He should at least see how the next film does first, before he considers opting out.
Comment by DokterWhu on November 21, 2012 at 5:32pm I think Mr. Nimoy role as the great Paris on Mission Impossible is a good example that he does other projects but he can't shake off Spock, Zachary is trying to avoid being recognized only as a character, i can respect that but come on bro what other projects are u going to do? you need to stick with it since the movies take 3 to 4 years to develope
Comment by Robert Wild on November 21, 2012 at 1:48pm I think the pressure is just getting to him, and when J.J. Abrams's first Star Trek came out, Quinto was pretty much overlooked when Leonard Nemoy stole the show. Don't get me wrong, Quinto was great and people liked him, but as for the character Spock, he was simply overshadowed when Leonard Nemoy steped in. Now, he's on his own, and people will be giving their attention to him 100 percent. I think he just REALLY doesn't want to screw this up.
I can respect him for trying to go a different path, but if Star Trek into darkness is successful (and he does a good job) I really hope he does AT LEAST a third film.

Comment by Omnibus on November 21, 2012 at 4:06am i guess with the new cast we were nervous but delighted when we saw him as Spock. however i guess if we can have a ton of different people playing James Bond... well then we can have a new Spock. it is a little jarring however but i have a feeling given a movie or two we would adapt..... if.... there is a good actor playing the part. otherwise it will seem as jarring as the actor switch up in iron man 1 and 2.

Comment by Darth_Siskel on November 21, 2012 at 1:46am He should stick around for at least the 3rd movie and give the fans a proper trilogy... I mean everyone else in the cast was out making other movies between ST1 and 2... how many did he do? Frankly he could use the money in his bank account if he's going to be that picky about roles. Besides I cant really see him playing anything but a serial killer even if it weren't for Heroes he should be glad to have a big role like this.
