If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Alright, let's get that first "oh, not another remake" groan out of our systems early... here we go: ready? Aaaand, go.
...done? Okay, good. Let's continue: nineteen years after the original debuted, Warner Bros. has decided to remake "The Bodyguard". The 1992 film starred Kevin Costner as an ex-Secret Service Agent brought in to protect a popular pop-music diva (played by Whitney Houston) from a deranged fan, and instead falls in love with her, affecting his ability to protect her. The film notably includes Houston's classic rendition of "I Will Always Love You" - which itself was a remake of a Dolly Parton song - so it's possible that the remake will include a remake of a song which was a remake, and... ow, my head hurts.
Produced by Dan Lin ('Sherlock Holmes', 'The Departed') it's rumored that the bodyguard will be an Iraqi war vet to make the film more contemporary. Seeing as how the original plot revolved around the main character's specialty in protecting a single person (the President) and his difficulties with the frustrating singer and her un-presidential entourage, it should be interesting to see how they shoehorn work in the war vet angle.
The script was written in the 70's with Steve McQueen and Diana Ross in mind, but ended up with Costner and Houston in the roles decades later when the film finally made it to production. So, let's all put our cynicism aside for a moment and pretend like this film won't end up with something ridiculous like Channing Tatum protecting Rihanna and ask - who do you think could star in the main roles? Let's hear your couplings - the crazier the better!
