Top Seven Amazing Mythological Animals That Really Exist

Just thought I'd write about something different than movies, video games or music. This is a list of mythological creatures that do exist in some way. While this list is not 100% backed by research, it does make sense theory-wise. Here's a list of mythological creatures and an explanation of what it really might be.

7. Hydra and Basilisk a.k.a. Pythons

Nothing says manly than two naked guys attacking a snake

Pythons exist in different parts of Asia. It is easy to say that since Greece is near to Asia, it is more than likely that a Greek traveller may have ran into a python that looks like this:

After a few good meads the tale of the giant f'ing snake turns into a giant f'ing snake with multiple heads.

6. Aspidochelone a.k.a. The Leatherback Turtle

The description describes a giant turtle. Now look at that picture and now look at the Leatherback Turtle below.

Case close.

5. Mermaids a.k.a. Manatees

I will also contribute this tale to alcohol as well. That and, due to lack of hygiene, woman back than were probably not the greatest of eye candy. (with apologies to women)

4. Dragons a.k.a. Dinosaurs and Monitors

The earliest tales of dragons actually originate from China. It is believed that the Chinese were the first to discover dinosaur bones. It easy to find these bones and think they belonged to a creature like a dragon (which as far as theories goes, is not that far off).

While dinosaurs are extinct, they still have their relatives, like the komodo dragon. A creature whose spit can kill you. Maybe partly responsible for the basilisk myths.

3. Leviathan a.k.a. Any Whale or Whale Shark

Most awesome picture of this thing ever!

Some suggest that this creature might be a kronosaur, but I think it is more likely that it was just a variety of whales. Could be any whale. Back then the average fisher mostly had a dingy as a boat. even a twenty foot long whale could be scary. Now imagine how clean their pants would have been if they spotted the 100 foot long Blue Whale.

2. Kraken a.k.a Giant Squid

This is the only creature on the list that was not tainted by exaggeration!

Okay, maybe slightly exaggerated

The giant squid exists purely exists. Now how big they can get is still a mystery. They could grow to be about 20 feet long or up to 80 feet long. Here's a picture of a real, live one.

1. The Bloop a.k.a. No clue what so ever... Maybe a Cthululu

We know this thing exists because the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recorded this thing making its noise near South America. They definitely know that it is an animal, but they can't identify what type. This thing is big. Bigger than even a Blue Whale (take that leviathan!). What is it exactly? I like to think it might look like this:

Actually in the promo stuff for Cloverfield they used The Bloop sound to suggest that it was the monster.

i hope something like the bloop actually exist it not like its impossible close to the ocean floor are literally thousand of unknown creatures down there thats why when watching something like cloverfield you really can't disbelieve some of it ...what if there really is something bigger than big down there?

Harms: That isn't drool. Those are barbels, you know, like a catfish.
Comment by Harms on May 16, 2009 at 2:23pm
I just noticed in the painting above. Why does it have drool coming from the mouth?

Great post Harms! The Bloop could be one of the greatest discoveries of all time. Hope it doesn't look like the beast depicted in the picture though.

You know what's scarier than the Bloop? TWO or more Bloops, which is pretty likely since at least two are needed to reproduce and make more Bloops and keep the species alive (unless it can reproduce asexually).
