C.H. Gorog posted a statusHello everyone, this is my first blog post, so if you're reading this, please take it easy on me in the comments.
I know everyone is gonna beat me up for saying this, but the Nintendo Wii has EASILY won this generations console war. The console has been on sale since December 2006 and in that time it has sold 86 Million units. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are both at approximately 50 million units sold, so you can see the difference. I know some people say that "sales" are not the best way of determining if the console has beat out its competition and theoretically "won" the console war, but its the easiest way to see which console has been the most popular and most appreciated by consumers.

The link above confirms that Nintendo do in-fact have a new console prepped and ready for E3 and will be showing off its specifications and features at E3 in June.
Now, i did some research and i found the picture above online. Its VERY recent and has just been leaked online, and it seems fairly legitimate. It COULD be fake, but i highly doubt it.
General rumors state that the console is more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360. Thats great! But how much more powerful? Will developers just be porting PS3 and Xbox 360 games to the "Project Cafe". I think if Nintendo really want to keep up their success with this next generation, they will have to make their console "significantly" more powerful than both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and improve on the motion controls that made them so popular. Think about it, if Nintendo release a console that is on a level playing field with the PS3 and Xbox 360, they're still a generation behind.
Theres nothing wrong with bringing new technology and a new idea (in this case its streaming) to a new console, just dont ditch or forget about what made your previous console so popular and what people loved about it.
The big rumor for the console is that it is going to have a controller with a six inch screen that allows you to stream your games from your console onto your controller through bluetooth. It SOUNDS like an interesting idea and if they get it to work seamlessly it could be a very neat idea. The only worry i have is......How big is this controller gonna be if it has a 6 inch screen on it?, How expensive is it gonna be?, Whats the battery life gonna be like?
Pictured above: Rumored prototype of Project Cafe controller.
Think about it. A 6 inch screen is about the size of the screen on a portable dvd player, or if you have a 7 inch tablet, its a little smaller than that. Having a 6 inch screen (that could possibly be a touch screen) is gonna cost a lot of money. Im not willing to pay $100 for a controller. If this controller is gonna be such an important part of the console and if it can do all of these features, wouldnt that suck up the battery life really quickly?
The name they're throwing around for this new console is "Stream"
So for now, these are all just rumors. Were gonna have to wait till E3 to learn all the juicy details. As a self professed hardcore gamer, i am definetly excited for a new console, regardless of which company its from.
If your in the sony or microsoft camp, your probably not gonna be very interested in any of this, but if your a gamer who appreciates all consoles (like i do) OR if your a hardcore nintendo fan, June is gonna be the month of the year.
I will be doing live coverage of E3 so if you like, please follow me on twitter.
My twitter name is "ProjectCaffeine"
