It’s easy to come up with movie sequels that just shouldn’t have been made. Whole rambling diatribes have been written about movies like Batman & Robin or Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo.
But I was wondering the other day if I could think of movies that never had a sequel that I would have loved to see a sequel to. Believe me it was a much harder list to populate.
5: The Last Starfighter
I make no bones about it folks I am a child of the 80’s and I remember going to see this movie in the theaters. This is actually a pretty tight Sci-Fi movie that had some of the first really meaty CGI and I’m sorry but this movie needed a sequel. The main bad guy got away we need to know what happened to Xur…. Or they need to at least update the CGI to modern standards.
4: Tango and Cash
Ok You could say that this was just a Lethal Weapon knock off but I think it’s a lot more than that. Unlike the Lethal Weapon movies the characters of Tango and Cash are more equals then Riggs and Murtaugh are. They are both great cops in their own right and when they come together they’re even better. Come on if they can make Beverly Hills Cop 3 they could have at least banged out a second one of these
They made Lethal Weapon 4 but no one thought to make a second Maverick movie? This movie was a blast. Lots of fun to watch and the Easter eggs and fourth wall winks will have you spotting something new every time you watch the film. This is another one where they left the movie with things unanswered. I wanted to see Bret chasing Annabelle to get that money back and the hijinks involved in getting it back
2: Quigley Down Under
The main reason I think that this movie needed a sequel because it felt like it was just one small story in the adventures of Matthew Quigley. Like a classic dime store novel. I wanted to see the other adventures of Matthew Quigley.
1: Big Trouble in Little China
Ok this is a classic and I gotta say, like Matthew Quigley, I wanted to see more adventures of Jack Burton. Who wouldn’t want to see more adventures of everyone’s favorite wisecracking big rig driver.
