After seeing the Witcher Happy Hour, I went out to go get this game. I've thus far only done one playthrough and yes the game has its ups and downs, like any game really. There is only one thing that I'd like to say that stood out as a massive negative for the game and want to warn those who read the quest logs during and after each quest. I'm going to be kinda vague as not to give any spoilers.

The game actually spoils itself. I've only had this a few times during my playthrough, but on one specific one it really almost ruined and spoiled one of my next playthroughs' major plot points will be. At the very end of the story I was reading a journal entry and it gave me information that, to my knowledge, I would have never been able to guess on my own without having gone down a different choice path.

I hope that I'm wrong here and just missed information that was given to me on those occasions but I'm pretty thorough with my log reading/information gathering. If I'm not wrong, I really hope they address this issue in a future patch.

I think if anything, Skyrim is defiantly the better option. At the most, you will beat this game in just under two weeks (not really much). I myself have already brought and own this game for quite some time now and already, I am practically done with it ($60 is a bit too much for about a week's worth of time).

To be quite blunt, you can get the same thrills from various other action games (like Devil May Cry, or heck, even Dark Souls, etc). It is a pretty cool game but quite generic and nothing very special, especially by today's standards. A game like Skyrim is truly a monumental leap towards breaking boundaries on the limitations of modern technology. Also, Skyrim has more creativity with much more realistic versions of mythology.

In many ways, there is even more depth due to the fact that it is more true to a role playing game (which is what RPG stands for). A game like Skyrim is design to immerse players into its wondrous world (it is like living in a new world). Not to mention, it is juxtaposed in well written stories and plot lines that could last you well over a year with just one save game alone (well worth its price). The story of Skyrim is just as good (if not perhaps better) than this near anime/Fable like story from this game (especially if you have the comprehension to perceive such complexities and perhaps know about at least The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion which may give you a broader insight of their universe). Overall, Skyrim is by no means a slacker to its story or writing as many of today's video games do (which only makes it all the more better considering the amount of content in Skyrim which is truly beyond expectation).

Story wise, The Witcher 2 is pretty decent but far from superb or deep (not all that different from many others like it). It sort of anckers in too close to somewhat of an anime/medieval like story (except a more Scottish take on such a story). For whatever reason, the world just felt too close to that of Dragon Age and/or a giddier version of Fable as well, which didn't help this game at all (it almost made me want to put down the controller due to such familiarities, practically standardized action and non-special attributes). it is also a bit too quirky, corny, and in many ways, doltishly silly (mainly with the characterizations of most of the characters in the game). However, there are many ways the story may go, but quite honestly, they just don't seem quite fascinating enough nor really worth the time to actually play it again (especially with other potentially good or great games coming out soon). Sure, with politics, it is just fine, but Mass Effect or even Fable (mainly the third) has basically done that just as well (if not better). If anything, you are better off just getting Kingdoms of Amalur.

Basically, it is really just the basic boss battles (which is dramatically similar to other we have seen from action games) and very standardized (by modern times) action combat(which is not all that special) that makes up the bulk of this game (which honestly, is hardly different from almost any other action game today). Practically, there isn't much else that this game honestly offers that would make someone pay the full price. Also, this game is not breaking boundaries by any stretch of the imagination.

My opinion, it is a game that is best to get when it is going for maybe $30 or so (it's pretty cool, but just not worth over 60% of a hundred dollar bill...).

By the way, it is my day off and I am sorry if I am replying too early (I am sort of a workaholic with no work on the moment or even for the rest of the day...).

If you go for story then The Witcher beats Skyrim hands down. Skyrims strength was exploration and roleplaying as such its story took a back seat (not that some of the quest lines weren't enjoyable I'm thinking of the  Werewolves and the Dark Brotherhood).

While I admittedly haven't played Skyrim yet ($60 is a lot of money), I'm thinking I'd like The Witcher 2 more because of it's more condensed world and deeper story. That's one reason I prefer JRPG (ones like Persona 4, not Final Fantasy 13, though 13 really isn't that bad)
