In a Rapture-like incident people disappear, leaving behind only their clothes and other accessories. Darkness is the enemy as something in the shadows is consuming all life. The only way to survive is to stay in the light.

Three survivors Luke (Hayden Christensen), Rosemary (Thandie Newton) and Paul (John Leguizamo) find themselves hold up with a bar with the child (Jacob Latimore) of the owner. The generator keeping the lights on is running out of gas. With little time to spare the survivors must figure out a way to get out of the city before time runs out.

The acting is ok but nothing special. A good sense of suspense is portrayed well but could have been done better. Special effects are good and the film is shot well. The real failing of the film is the total lack of explanation for the shadow like entities and assorted phenomena. The film needed more exposition. The only real explanation alluded to is the infamous disappearance of the English colony at Jamestown. "The Vanishing on 7th Street" bares a lot of resemblance to the Japanese horror movie "Kairo" and the American remake "Pulse". Those films did a better job at portraying the "sole survivor" senario.
