My younger brother and i discussed this subject and came to the conclusion that Jake basically doomed the human race. The metal that was their whole reason for being on Pandora was Food the metal was like a super fertilizer. Since the largest deposit was under the largest tree on that planet.

And why would a corporation and government get involved and are willing to go through the trouble of creating these Avatars if it wasn’t important along with how desperate they where to actually get the metal.

But you wonder why wouldn’t this be mentioned, because the Navi are good and the government and corporations are bad. Don’t forget James Cameron directed Aliens which had the same evil corporations and military. Battle for Terra had this similar plot and handled it a hundred times better.
