THE LEAGUE OF EXTREMELY ORDINARY GENTLEMEN: Volume 7, Issue 8: Anti-Heroes

THE LEAGUE OF EXTREMELY ORDINARY GENTLEMEN: Volume 7, Issue 8: Anti-Heroes

The League isn't always so nice, but they're the best at what they do. So we talk about others who qualify as such, not the least of which is Walter from "Breaking Bad" which we devote an entire segment to (so warning: spoilers). Add to that the return of Jason Neulander from The Intergalactic Nemesis talking about their upcoming world tour (check out where you can see them here) and you've got one helluva episode of the LEOG. Check it...

As promised, here is the trailer for 'The Intergalactic Nemesis':

Here's actually how I speculate the series will end:

I see them going down a "French Connection" route.

A few episodes into the season, Hank and Walt discuss the William Friedkin movie "The French Connection" (which I love, by the way). Hank I believe compares himself to Popeye Doyle and Heisenberg to the film's antagonist. Walter notes that in the film (and I believe, in real life) the bad guy was never caught.

Through the course of the season, I can see Walter losing his family, but almost being indifferent. Jesse potentially dead, Hank possibly dead, his family either abandonded or dead. Perhaps they have all the money they need and Walter has all the money he needs, and Walter having phoned up the "Vacuum Salesman" has a new life and new identity. Then, when all is said and good, and Walter is on his way to freedom...

...his cancer comes out of remission.

I think Jesse is a surrogate son to Walt.

Especially after that one moment, where Walter is all fucked up after a fight with Jesse. When his son comes over to his house and he gets emotional. His apology to his son sounds like it's actually directed at Jesse, which is further evidenced by him calling his son "Jesse" when he's put to bed.

Just finished Season 4 of Breaking Bad. Gotta listen to this.

I hope the League does an entire Breaking Bad episode once the series has concluded.

I just got caught up on Breaking Bad, so I revisited this episode! I just got to the breaking bad section, and I'm excited to hear what you guys thought of the season 4 finale!

Very cool, Intergalactic Nemesis is coming to Chicago on Nov. 6th, only a mile and a half from my apartment.  Now I really don't have any excuse to not see this.  Maybe some other Spill fans are going to be there and hang out beforehand.

man..... just wanted to say that i am ETERNALLY grateful for you guys putting me on to "The Shield" and "Breaking Bad". I've watched them back to back over the last year, and I'm with Leon; I'm suprised my heart and/or brain didn't explode. Thanks again. guys.

Cyrus, kudos for calling those two out for their Scarface argument. Also, I watched three seasons of Breaking Bad (I just got into the show a month ago) to listen to this LEOG. A week late, but still. Also, speaking of Mel Gibson films, I would consider Walter Black from The Beaver is a quiet and demented anti-hero. I love that movie very much, but that dude is messed up.

was this the Breaking Bad episode, I've been listening for 2 hours now...

Also, as an addendum to my previous comment, the series title "Breaking Bad" could possibly relate to Walter's seeming breaking of character into the "Heisenburg" personality.  And therein lies the tragedy, because in "winning", he had ultimately lost, because he had done precisely what the writers wanted him to do... which was become something other than a high school chem teacher, a car wash attendant, and a normal husband and father.  Which is the reason the show is so great, and why we watch him.  Because he turned 'bad'.
