The Dark Knight - The Unexplained Moments

I love The Dark Knight. I don't think anyone was more excited about the DVD/Blu-Ray release than I was. Hell, you should check out my room (Four Dark Knight posters, and a life-size Joker stand-up). Maybe I'll take pictures of them later, but anyways! I'm a huge fan of the film, and when I popped in the Blu-Ray last night I was thrilled to finally see the film on my television screen.

That being said, there are some unexplained moments in the film that I just don't get. Here is a list of some of them, maybe you guys can explain!

Scene #1: "A Little Fight In You I Like That..."

Let's go through the scene. Rachel hits Joker, Joker laughs as he is ready to get at her, then all of a sudden Batman appears...out of thin air. When I first saw this I asked myself "Where the hell did he come from?" or "Is the Joker blind as hell?"...that could explain the eye twitches. I don't think it's either. Perhaps Batman is one slick guy, very subtle, and sneaky. To come out of no where, with no one seeing you is a crazy accomplishment. Kudos to Batman, you're one sneaky guy.

Scene #2: "Hahahaha...I Got A Shoe-Knife!"

Alright, Joker and Batman have a huge brawl after Batman comes out of thin air. Joker then pulls out his handy-dandy shoe-knife. Can someone explain how these shoe-knives work? I never understood the concept, because shouldn't the knife accidently come out while he's running around fighting? Nope, apparently one good stomp brings it out. This has been used in a lot of movies, but I just don't get it! Hopefully one of you Spillios can tell me how it works!

Scene #3: "No, But I Know How You Got These!"

Alright, lets go through the scene. The Joker has Batman pinned down. Batman uses his handy gadget given to him by Fox: those arm, little, spiky... things (I don't know the proper name for them). They shoot out at the Joker's face, and then Batman pushes the Joker off the building. When we first saw this gadget, I remember Bruce hitting a button or something of that nature with his hand. So how did he shoot them at the Joker while he was pinned down? Maybe the gadget also reads the mind and obeys!

Scene #4: "We Got Em', He's Out Of The Game"

Okay, in this scene Batman has to fight off the SWAT teams because Gotham police are dumb and don't notice the clowns are actually hostages. When they think they got Batman cornered, Batman kicks one of the SWAT members off the building, and since the SWAT team is connected with a cable they all fall down. Batman gets a smooth get-a-way to go battle the Joker on the top floor..this sounds like a video game. The thing I don't get is this: what is keeping the SWAT from falling? I watched the scene a few times and don't see a pole or anything keeping them from falling. If anyone can inform me that be great.

Finally: One Weird Thing...

Last but not least, is it just me or does the Mayor look like he wears Mascara? Just look at those eyes...the eyes of a Drag Queen.

There you have it, moments I can't explain from my favorite movie of all time. If anyone has some good explanations just let me know!

Scene #1: Well, what I would guess, is that Batman came around the small crowd to the right of Rachel and Joker and told them to be quiet if anyone tried to say or do anything. (Which I think that they wouldn’t, because a bad guy was there and they wanted to be saved.) But as you can see from the shot to the right of Rachel and Joker, there is a hallway or something like that. They actually aren’t that far from it, the thugs are busy intimidating and keeping the civilians in line. So, I can see how Batman could sneak in there. Also the fact that Batman can drop from the top of a building using his batarang thingy to slow his fall and land without making a single sound. He blends into the night and darkness, so naturally he has to be stealthy and silent.

Scene #2: Not much information is released on this particular subject seeing as how criminals would be using it all the time to their advantage. But I think that the blade looks like a special blade designed for mechanical purposes. So I would think that there would be some other way to make it so that the mechanism is triggered when he stomps his foot. I.E: Pulling a string that is attached to the thumb dagger that allows it to loosen up in the contraption, thus allowing the pushing part of the contraption inside the shoe to shoot out of the shoe. But it would have to have a lot of power just to be able to come through the sloe of the shoe even if there was an opening (which would have to be very thin so no one could notice it). Some shoe-knife contraptions are painful unless the knife itself is actually wedged into the sole of the shoe itself, which would make it a one time use thing. But also note how Joker kind of limps off the foot with the shoe-knife. I would think that he would have discarded the dagger right after using it so it wasn’t painful. So while Batman was fighting the henchmen, he may have just yanked it out or whatever.

Scene #3: I don’t believe that it’s a button that triggers the contraption on his arm. I think he might be flexing his arm and pulling his fist inward so that it might pull something that sets off the blades. Or something like that. No one will really know unless they show us pictures or the thing up close and in brighter lighting.

Scene #4: If I remember correctly, I believe the so called “cable” is the same cable that the SWAT team uses to get down from the top level and kind of drop down safely to the next level. So it must be safely secured for the SWAT team to even use it in the first place. All Batman does is knock them out for a few moments one by one to the edge. Once they’re all down on the floor, he just kicks the guy closest off the edge and then they all slid off and just hang in the air (by their belts?) from wherever they first secured it.

Finally: I have known a few people (part of them men) that naturally have very thick eyelashes and it actually looks like they’re wearing eyeliner and mascara. He just has thick lashes, and just because an actor/actress looks like they’re wearing some makeup that may make them look “creepy” (by your definition) does NOT make them the bad guy. Just take this into consideration about the way people look before.

By the way, just thought I should let you know, if you think you’re obsessed. You said you have 4 posters and a stand-up. I beat you.
I have 5 shirts, 5 posters, 1 full door poster, 3 professional art portraits, 4 specialized professional photographs, the whole Joker outfit (not considered a “costume” by the way, it is a replica for fan-made thingys, not really something to wear out of the house on Halloween), 1 pencil bag, a pair of fingerless gloves, the movie (but I wouldn’t really think that counts anyway), the Dark Knight book with production art and script, a number of comic books, a sling bag, 2 calendars, 2 hats, and a collection of pins.
And yes, every item I just named is about Joker and has Joker on it. >=D

k, one thing i felt didnt make sense that wasent in this blog was also in the joker party crash scene. So lets set the scene: Joker busts in with his crew, with the intention of killing harvey dent, then batman shows up, joker pushes rachel out the window and batman jumps after her leaving EVERYONE at the party unprotected, but then they just jump to the next scene! Batman is down in the streets while joker is still up in the penthouse, so what did joker just go "well, alright bye" and leave??

wouldn't your eyeball dry out and shrivel up if you couldnt blink?

Well, Mike, Joker's anarchy speech may not have been convincing to you, but Dent had just been through a tragedy and was deeply depressed so that made it easier for Joker to manipulate him.

As for the mayor, I'm already afraid of that actor due to his role on Lost. As soon as I saw him in TDK, I was like, "Oh my God! The Mayor is that creepy guy who doesn't age!".

btw OMFG I'm so happy you noticed the mayor thing too. Doesn't he look and sound like Chris Crocker's older brother??????

He is batman dammit, Batman is cool among many things because he has weird tecnology (that probably in real life don't exist), that allows him to do amazing things, it's like if that was his superpower.
The Swat team scene looks cool, It's all I care.
On the other side if you are looking for something unexplained : why the people that worked to create the batmobile didnt recognized it before, Batman only painted it black.
