"Maybe Cyrus would have liked this if it was about a bunch of guys steeling Doctor Who shit" nice one Co-Host!
Look, this movie is filled with problems. But, I thought it was still entertaining at times. People like old man Leon just won't understand how many teenagers are like nowadays. As a teenager in high school, I can honestly say the performances in this movie were PERFECT! For a representation of how young adults act and behave, this movie did a much better job at that than Spring Breakers. As always, Emma Watson stole the show. This movie still had a lot of pacing issues and was repetitive at times, but was still enjoyable. It really depends on the audience and what they want to see.
For me, it was a low matinee.
The world is full of evil, some people just choose to celebrate it without a sense of irony...or is it too much irony?
Between this and Spring Breakers, Spring Breakers is the better film. Only because it took everything further, from it's characters to how it was shot. Spring Breakers is a more extreme version of Bling Ring, and seeing one made me like the other more than I normally would have.
Bling Ring's main problem isn't that its characters are mostly one-dimensional, I think that should be expected from the audience. It's because, as the spill crew said, there's no story arc or look from the cop's side of things. And there are girls like these characters in the real world, who are just as one-dimensional and annoying.
p.s. I was PISSED that they inserted TMZ as a news source -_-
take this guy's advice and AVOID watching this show at all costs!!!
I really did like this movie, it got 61% on RottenTomatoes 'While it's certainly timely and beautifully filmed, The Bling Ring suffers from director Sofia Coppola's failure to delve beneath the surface of its shallow protagonists' real-life crimes.'
Sofia Coppola makes a fun, raw, harsh, real and hip picture about the celebrity lifestyle in Americabased on the true Vanity Fair articlethese days people rarely care about the little nice things people/celebrities do for the world; they're more interested in what they have done to get in the spotlightthese kids go out of their minds robbing the biggest names in Hollywood from Lindsay Lohan to Paris Hiltonthe film isn't really so much Emma Watson's movie but more about this entire group of kids partying the night away in their own rightthe movie did a lot of things right for me: for starters the title is both literal and figurative being that the bling is part of the stolen property consisting of jewelry, clothing, sunglasses and the circle of friends/perpetrators that take part in this activitythese young adult actors perform exceedingly well, they stand out as real people just trying to live to the best of their ability even if they are shallowthe picture quality of the film is tremendous and at times you almost feel like it's not being shot on a camcorder or handheld camerait's also really shocking at the very end of the last scene to know who made it out clean and free as a birdthe music is very hip and up to dateto me though the ones who stood out the most was Nicki, her little sister and Chloethey are less going along for the ride and more goingMarc and Rebecca although being friends don't really share the same level of concern for their actions and maybe the filmmakers could have had more of a power strugglethis group of kids keep going too despite making headlines and getting the attention of the authoritiesall in all the movie is good social commentary on the youth and the media, the risks and the dangers that are just too good to pass up, the adrenaline of the rush and the effects of joining an illegal-prone ring of culprits
again just like 'This Is The End' Emma Watson's the best part
HERE'S WHAT I WROTE ABOUT THE TRAILER FOR SOFIA COPPOLA'S LAST FILM, SOMEWHERE, BACK IN 2010.....
"FUCK SOFIA COPPOLA AND HER ARISTOCRATIC MALAISE.....
Everything this bitch has done relates to how she's a poor little rich girl, born into Hollywood royalty which is why Life Without Zoe (From New York Stories) is exactly the type of fantasy you'd expect from an 18 year old airhead who knows NOTHING about the real world.
The Virgin Suicides is a miserable piece of "woe is me" trash about the mindset of vacuous teenage girls who have read too much Sylvia Plath and fantasize about killing themselves because they don't get enough attention from Mommy and Daddy while “suffering” the existential Horrors of High School and suburbia. This cunt should have been thrown into a South Central LA foster home when she was 12. Who knows, maybe she wouldn’t have her head soo far up her fucking culo.
Lost in Translation is one of the most overrated piece’s of shit I have ever seen and is obviously based on her own life as it details the trials and tribulations of a Directors wife (Coppola was married to Spike Jones) who feels neglected by her husband, while also trying to define herself as a woman, and has a “platonic” relationship with an older man (no sex, of course, because then she would be a whore) all the while taking place in Tokyo Japan in the lap of luxury. I’d LOVE to see this dumb bitch deal with a 9 to 5 job, a blue collar husband and a bunch of kids with no nanny and/or servants.
And, of course, Marie Antoinette couldn’t be about a significant figure of the French Revolution who was tried for treason, executed and attributed to the phrase “Let them eat cake” which symbolized everything wrong with the ruling class aristocracy of the era. Instead, this dingbat degenerates the whole thing into yet another pre-pubescent fantasy about living in a castle with, like, awesome clothes, parties and cute guys. There’s a great movie about Marie Antoinette to be made but there was never a chance from this spoilt American brat.
Which brings us to her latest, Somewhere, yet another movie about another rich and famous asshole, in this case an actor, who is just soo bored with all the trappings of fame and fortune. Yeah, it must be such fucking Hell. You know, I have a vision of Sofia Coppola living in a castle, surrounded by servants, delicious cakes, beautiful clothes, sitting on a pile of treasure with all the possibilities the world has to offer, all the while playing a solid gold violin and lamenting about how hard her life is. Just stick a fucking gun in your mouth and keep pulling the trigger until you run out of bullets to spare us your endless whining about how hard it is to have money and fame you fucking waste of space."
WHICH NOW BRINGS US TO SOFIA'S LATEST, THE BLING RING, AND HER PATHETIC ATTEMPT TO DO A CRIME FILM BUT, AS BEFITTING HER STATION IN LIFE AS HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY WHO HAS NEVER WORKED A DAY IN HER LIFE, SHE CAN'T EVEN MAKE A GENRE FILM WITHOUT IT BEING A REFLECTION OF HER VACUOUS EXISTENCE!!!FACT!!!
A bunch of empty headed teens decide to rob the homes of the rich, famous and brainless (a snake eating its own tail) and, of course, no lesson will be learned as being caught is no longer seen as a punishment as it simply fuels these fucking morons grasping attempt to achieve their 15 Minutes of Fame. This isn't a bunch of hardened criminals from rough backgrounds trying to make a score that will feather their nest, it's the Reality TV Generation wanting money and possessions simply because they think they deserve it and believe that's what is most important in life as a result of the toxic waste dump that is American culture today, fueled by the media's obsession with scum like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian who have become world famous despite having no talent what-so-ever and raised with a dynastic lack of self doubt as a result of their gilded lifestyle, that everything they do is right because they're rich and that they deserve attention simply because they want it.
Sofia Coppola is no different as she continues to show a complete and utter lack of self-awareness in everything she does. Life is one big party for her and she will NEVER know anything beyond her privilaged existence. This is constantly reflected in her work which is just as shallow and empty as the motivations of these teens and the people whose homes they robbed.
The Bling Ring, like the recent Spring Breakers, are nothing more than exercises in pseudo-artistic pretentiousness wrapped up in the guise of genre films all the while being nothing more than a mirror of their creators limited intellectual abilities, a Jersey Shore level view of American society and myopic fixation with style over substance of which Harmony Korine and Sofia Coppola display with every piece of shit they make.
LIke I said months ago on Yahoo!, why the hell would I care to watch a movie about some stupid kids doing some stupid shit to some stupid people? Sofia Coppolla sucks. This chick is just boring. I don't know if she knows it but she gets by on her daddy's name.
As I have had my house broken in to....I really hate thieves.
I saw this just because of Emma Watson and she did a awesome job is still hot. I gave this a rental while Springbreakers is a matinee.
I was really looking forward to this movie because I think the story is fascinating, but I was pretty dissapointed. Sofia Coppola's movies bore me, and unfortunately I was bored with this one too. There were some things I liked. I love that when they were in Megan Fox's house, there was a movie script on her bedside table and Emma Watson completely ignores it to look at more stuff. I also like that they didn't make a big deal about their guy friend being gay; I think it could have been easy to turn that into some sort of after school special. Still, overall it was pretty boring, and all the best parts were in the trailer.
