When it was announced that Paramount, under director Jonathan Liebesman ('Battle: L.A.'), was rebooting the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,' it didn't raise too many eyebrows. Even fans had to acknowledge that we were past due for a reboot. However, the partnership struck with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes had some of us a little uneasy. Recently, during a Nickelodeon event, Bay spoke about his designs for the new 'TMNT' movie. One particular comment he made is causing a bit of an angry stir among die hard fans. Listen to the brief clip below and see if anything strikes you as odd.
I'm sorry..."aliens?" While the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, the cartoon series, and the the innumerable toys were all a big part of my childhood, I don't consider myself an unreasonable fanboy. I'm fine with as many remakes and reboots they want to do. My big question however is, why make this change? Is the canon of these four mutated amphibians with martial arts training not genre-crazy already without the inclusion of extraterrestrial tropes? To me, this speaks to the overall problem with Michael Bay. The man is so obsessed with doing everything bigger and flashier that he doesn't really consider whether his choices are necessary. But perhaps I am too close to the material and this change will benefit the film.
What do you guys think? Can this alien twist work for TMNT? If so, how?

No one will be a better Casey Jones than Elias Koteas, he basically murdered Shredder at the end of the first movie!
oh god please tell me he is still not talking to Megan Fox.....
Comment by blkriku on March 21, 2012 at 10:47pm I just can't understand why Bay needs to make them aliens? If you want a richer world, you can do that with the original source material. If you just want to ride on your Transformers wave, you can just send them into space, they have been there. But there is absolutely no reason to change their origin in such a stupid manner. But worst part of all of this, it'll still probably make a ton of money, giving the studios more reason to give this insane man more money to, in the words of the original movie Michelangelo, "Sodomize our childhood"
Hell to the FUCK NO. I am of the tmnt generation, not the silly kid shows of today but born in 1984 growing up on the original cartoons and die hard fan of first two tmnt movies. TMN...Aliens....Fuck YOU Michael Bay, fuck you up your stupid ass. Yes that was a J&SB reference, but still came from the heart.
