Number 5: Deadly Premonition

Synopsis:
A third-person
survival horror action game which puts you in the role of FBI Agent
Francis York Morgan. In the process of investigating a murder, you will
examine a series of interlocking mysteries in a remote rural town and
will encounter an array of complex characters pivotal to the unraveling
of the storyline’s mystery. Suspenseful action sequences will force you
to make strategic moves, gliding by enemies in the shadows or engaging
them with long-range weapons or hand-to-hand melee combat. Amidst a
backdrop of soaring mountains and a town filled with eccentric natives,
Agent Morgan must solve the mystery of the ‘Red Seed Murders’ and stay
alive in a place where supernatural creatures and a folklore killer seek
to end his investigation permanently.
Splinter47 says: Despite
Deadly Premonition's
not-so-great graphics and gameplay, it's a fun horror/survivor game to
play from the beginning to end. Plus its only $20!! What more can you
ask for? Kids these days, all they care about is
Graphics!!!!Number 4: Mafia 2
Synopsis:
Featuring a
deep mobster-driven narrative packed with both behind-the-wheel and
on-foot action, Mafia 2 is the sequel fans have been clamoring for. Like
the original Mafia title, Mafia 2 immerses players in the mob
underworld of a fictitious late 1940's-early 1950's scenario. Players
easily become engaged in the game's cinematic Hollywood movie experience
with strong, believable characters in a living, breathing city. [2K
Games]
Splinter47 says: Mafia 2 has great voice acting, beautiful presentation, intense moments and an engrossing story about two guys wanting to make a name for
themselves. It may look like an open-world game but its not-so to the
extend of GTA but that's okay. Mafia 2 is the Goodfella's of videogames, nuff said.
Number 3: Red Dead Redemption
Synopsis:
Developed by
Rockstar San Diego, as a follow up to the 2004 hit game Red Dead
Revolver, Red Dead Redemption is a Western epic, set at the turn of the
20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to
the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age.
The story of former outlaw, John Marston, Red Dead Redemption takes
players on a great adventure across the American frontier. Utilizing
Rockstar's proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), Red Dead
Redemption features an open-world environment for players to explore,
including frontier towns, rolling prairies teeming with wildlife, and
perilous mountain passes - each packed with an endless flow of varied
distractions. Along the way, players experience the heat of gunfights
and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the
harshness of one of the world’s last remaining wildernesses, and
ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about
the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it.
Splinter47 says:
Red Dead Redemption is a great open-world game set in the wild west.
Along with great storytelling, gameplay, and plenty of things to do Red Dead Redemption is truely a game that can't be missed.
Number 2: Splinter Cell Conviction

Synopsis: Sam Fisher has left Third Echelon since the events of
Double Agent and begins the story working by himself on his personal mission. In a
drastic change from the previous games, Sam is perceived to be much
quicker, stronger and far more brutal in his quest for truth. The game
features several new gameplay elements and mechanics including
Mark and Execute, which allows the the player to target multiple enemies and instantly kill them when the player has a clear shot.
Splinter47 says: Finally after 4 years Sam Fisher returns in
Splinter Cell Conviction
along with newer and deadlier moves. Conviction takes place 3 years
after the events of Double Agent and now Sam is on a personal mission to
find out the truth about his daughters death.
Splinter Cell Conviction throws away the gameplay mechanics that made the
Splinter Cell
series popular with a slick cover system, great gameplay and melee
attacks along with a new feature called "mark and execute" which gives
the player the ability to mark enemies and when the moment is right they
can take out multiple enemies but you have to earn it with a melee
attack.
Splinter Cell Conviction
delivers in every way with great voice acting from the great Michael
Ironside and reminding us how great a video game character Sam Fisher
truely is.
Number 1: Mass Effect 2
Synopsis: The Mass Effect trilogy is a science fiction adventure set in a vast
universe filled with dangerous alien life forms and mysterious uncharted
planets. In this dark second chapter, Saren’s evil army of Geth
soldiers has just been defeated, and humans, who are still struggling to
make their mark on the galactic stage, are now faced with an even
greater peril. [BioWare]
Splinter47 says:
After great success with Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 started the year
off with a bang. Mass Effect 2 is as good as you're going to get this
year from a video game, it has it all: great graphics, stupendous
voice-acting, amazing score, immersive story, and profound characters.
Mass Effect 2 is my choice for the game of the year and PS3 owners will
soon enjoy the greatness that is Mass Effect 2. GO BUY IT!!!
So here is my list of the top 5 video games of the year... so far and If you're not down with that I got two words for you.

In
Closing, I would have to say that so far this year has been a great
year in video games. Also, this is the year of smoking in video games I
mean Marlboro should try and get Agent York or The Illusive Man as their
spokesmodel for their cigarettes. They smoke like crazy in their
respective games, I would actually risk lung cancer if it meant I would
look as cool as these two.
