@John Thomas

Nope. Unless it's something that I really feel needs it, right now HD collections are at the bottom of the list. Most of the time they're games that have been out for years so you don't need us to tell you if they're any good or not.

Hitman HD trilogy review?

Comment by Chaos Jumper on February 15, 2013 at 9:08pm

Ok, I completed the game and figured out my qualms with the game. I was planning to do a review, but I have too much on the table, so I'll just say this; it's a good Sensaru Sly Cooper game but not a good Sly Cooper game. It has the stuff that made Sly Cooper famous, the voice acting for the most part was top notch and a good amount of time can be spent on the story and the open world to get collectable extras, special abilities and bla bla bla. It also shows some of Sensaru's now becoming auteurs; a bunch of mini games, animation style, and putting hints, references and hidden eggs EVERYWHERE. For a company that simply started by making an HD collection, they did a good job making a game. And again, one of the levels with a character that wasn't originally noted in the original series feels like a perfect fit for me and the level around that character is really good.

The problem is just . . . let's put it in the same place as DmC; it's a good game on it's own, but when compared to it's predecessors (Even though they're eight to ten years apart) it feels underwhelming in comparison. It has gaming elements that feel as though they were lifted right out of other games (Red Dead Redemption, God of War, most RPGs and so on), the story is probably the weakest of the 4 because it doesn't give the three main characters as much of a grand arc as the last three were. The bosses both in their backstory (With a slight exception to El Jefe . . . also because he was played by Nathan Drake) and how you fight them are both weak and dissapointing with one of the villains coming out of left field and is more backtracking of the character than really doing anything with . . . the villain. Not to mention the final villain's backstory is last minute and the villain himself is not all that interesting of a main, with his reasoning being very confusing for me and playing against him was reaaally underwhelming. First time around, I was OK with it but my second quick view of the repetitive missions, long loading times and gameplay with a lack of inspired variety and surprise pulled my original rating down. . . sort of. I know who made this and I know who they were particularly aiming for; the younger audience who are new to gaming and the tone shows that. So I can give this game two ratings.

Intended Audience: High Matinee - Low Full Price. This is defiantly a lighthearted game for a younger audience while catering to the nostalgia of the much older individuals (Like myself) but more of the former than the latter. So I think this is a nonlinear but decent introduction to the Sly Cooper series.

My Personal (Fanboy) Opinion: Bargain-Bid: There are some moments in this game (The Ice Age Level mainly) where it shows the promise of an inspired Sly Cooper game, but most of it feels repetitive and rather lackluster, especially when comparing it to the original 3 games. In the end it looks like a Sly Cooper game, acts like a Sly Cooper game, but inside it is simply an imitation rather than the innovation I've been waiting 8 years for.

Glad to hear you guys like this game, but they should just make a Sly Cooper cartoon.

Man the 3D platformer used to rule the world of video games now they have really gone the way of the dinosaur. Sly was one of those series I always meant to get into but personally I was more of a Jak & Daxter fan.

Glad to hear you guys liked it for the most part,Sly has a collection I might to check it out.

Actually, Jeff, they did add Cart racing to the first sly cooper game. And the first game (And most of Sly 2) was just you playing Sly Cooper. And if you like the Murry in this one, you will love him in the rest of the cooper games since he was the guy that drives in the first one. Carmelita Fox and Sly have a . . . unique relationship. Since the beginning of the game, it has always been a cat and mouse chase between the two love birds. But since the whole false amnesia thing it seemed to be both Carmelita and Sly's dream come true.

I don't know what to think about this game. On one hand, I do like the fact that we go back into the Cooper~verse and some things feel great (Like one character I won't spoil seems perfect canon for me) and new and inspiring. On the other hand, there is something that makes me feel disappointed and rather disliked it, mainly in a story & tone aspect and how awkward it felt in comparison to where the original 3 was going. Oh wow, a 20 year old complaining about the story of a kid's game? I'm not expecting InFAMOUS story telling, but a bit of continuation and continuity for a guy who is inspired by the Cooper games weirdly enough in storytelling (Yeah, it's a thing, shut up). I won't say at what point and why, but there were points where I just got a bit of nerd rage. I will play it again, but it just didn't feel like something that is repayable like the original 3. But again, this might be me getting old going "Why didn't you have Suzanne Cooper who could swim like I wanted back in the old days~" but something for me is not right in Denmark. Might do a review of it, but for me going by the Spill grid, I'd give it a high matinee/Full price for it's younger audience but as a dedicated fan who has been looking over this development since it was announced I have no clue.

Glade you guys liked it, I was a big fan of the first 3 games, but I was a little hesitant about this one, since the 3rd one ended in a way that I couldn't see them doing another.

I'll defiantly pick this up at some point.
