If it's crap ... We'll tell you
As we reported in last week's 'Superhero Round-Up', Marvel Studios has tapped Shane Black - director of 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' - as a potential director for the third installment of the 'Iron Man' film franchise. Now, according to multiple sources, Black has entered into final negotiations with the studio and is expected to finalize the deal at any time.
This should come as good news to fans of all kinds - fans of Shane Black can be happy because the director has another shot at a huge franchise (his last big franchise was 'Lethal Weapon'), while fans of Iron Man can rest assured that the third film is being put in the right hands. In addition to working with Robert Downey Jr. previously (on 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang'), Black apparently did some uncredited work on the first Iron Man script and it's rumored that RDJ approached Black before filming for advice on nailing the "Tony Stark patter".
Barring a total breakdown in negotiations, (and with a little luck) we may be seeing a return to form for the Iron Man movies. With Black's extensive experience in action films and his knack for snappy dialog, this could be a smart business move for Marvel after 2010's 'Iron Man 2' failed to live up to fan and critical expectation.
