If it's crap ... We'll tell you
First of all after being a loyal listener for a couple of years now, I have finally worked up the balls to put some thoughts down on some pertinent issues and share with the rest of the community.
I have had the urge a few times to write a post of some sort previously, but this was really the first time I really felt compelled to write something down.
I just listened to the latest ACOCO and it was the issue of Korey and co being accused of selling out. Listening to Korey and Carlyle, I
agree with both their definitions of the phrase ‘sell out’, more with Korey
though. If you have the time, please listen to the show, but as always
in-between the bullshitting, they do have a pretty interesting discussion.
According to Carlyle, doing something that you hate in order to pay the bills is selling out, but that walks a pretty fine line. What if you’re
a painter/writer, broke, hungry and no-one is willing to buy your latest
masterpiece? What if ‘Mall Cop’ is only way available to pay the rent? I wouldn’t
call that person a ‘sell-out’, only doing what is necessary to stay alive. If I
had to work security at a club so I could afford to go to university, did I
sell out for all those years of listening to drunken slobs threatening me with
physical harm and occasionally getting my nipples pinched? But I digress.
The main reason I decided to write was for all those calling the guys on this site, would you rather they turned down the money, then
charged folks to register with the site? And after listening to the review, how
can anyone accuse these guys of being sell-outs? I believe Co-Host 3000’s enthusiastic
praise for the movie was 100% genuine. If not for the robot head, I’d have
never seen such cinematic classics as ‘Dragon Wars’ or ‘Mega-shark vs Giant
Octopus’, I have no reason to doubt him.
I listen to these guys because they have a fun, innovative way of going about their reviews and other podcasts. You don’t have to agree
with their views to enjoy the show they put on. From the first video review I ever saw on the
Reel Deal website to hearing Co-Host lament about ‘Marmaduke’, there has never
being a whiff of selling-out.
And to those who insist on moaning about this, I refer to the sage words: ‘DON’T TELL ME YOUR PROBLEMS!’
