If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Saw 7 is to Saw what Jason X is to Friday the 13th. 7 years 7 movies ranging from ground breaking to pure shit, this ain't ground breaking. Saw 7 is a cheaply made badly written film with forgetable characters a few sub plots that end in a crappy place and a final absolute resolution to the Saw Franchise. This is a good thing that they're ending it but a bad thing they're ending it on such a bad note.
The Leads are, Jill Tuck(Jigsaw's ex wife), Hoffman(Jigsaw's #1 who's taken over after the bosses death but is taking it wayyy to far) a Detective who was saved by Hoffman back in the detective's rookie beat cop days and a guy who claims to have been tested by jigsaw and is now a big self help guru for surviving viticims. Both of those latter plots goes nowhere and one is a big fat liar it's not hard to tell which one. The only reason the self help guru is even mentioned is because the main focus of the traps and Gore the movie is set around a Saw 3 like series of traps where the guy has to save people who are apart of his life including his wife, of course that ends in typical Saw fashion(No Happy ending for anyone involved), The Detective is only mentioned because he's the one who figures out what jigsaw's truly up to but again that ends in typical saw fashion. This movies main plot is a cat and mouse game with Jill hiding from Hoffman by going to the police, and is held in protective custody in the heart of the police station. Of course Hoffman being the villian of the piece is able to not only some how get in but kill a total of 11,12 maybe 13 police officers, he's able to kill 6 in the police station, 5-7 through various other means during the film.
If you read that last sentence without thinking read it again. He was able to kill 6 police officers IN A POLICE STATION Mind you though there is clearly a shot fired and a woman screaming, Yet not a single officer heard it and not a single officer was seen beside those 6 in the station during that scene which went on for a good 5-10 minutes. THIS MOVIE IS FUCKING INSULTINGLY DUMB, like Bush declaring war on Iraq without proof of WMDs dumb for the most part instantly putting it into fuck you terrority. The gore is bad as they use this dark PINKISH liquid for blood(which during the station scene where Hoffman has blood on him it looks darkish pink not a dark red which just makes the scene silly), the movie is too bright it shows you everything when it shouldn't and has some rather dumb moments of a few characters hiding in basically plain sight. The final two major kills in the self help guy's plot line are disappointing as both have no real zing to them like Saw Kills usually have where it has that YANK moment where the trap is sprung and is killing them and it's very unsettling these kinda had a kind of a "poke" feel to them where they weren't nearly as unsettling as you saw it coming.
Also I'd like to point out a missed moment of pretty awesome where there was a character who had to get a key with assistance from a friend or they'd be hung by a mechanism, in the last 10 seconds before the trap springs they do a "on 3" moment, what would have made is if on 3 as the key is about to hit the characters hand the timer hits Zero and you get that "YANK" moment where you suddenly see the character get yanked up and hear his neck snap and then notice he had the key in his hand and then drops it out of his hand.
The only 2 positives I can give the movie are the final scene and that we finally got to see what happens to a person's face when the reverse bear trap goes off. however the latter postive gets hit hard because it used the pinkish blood for the effect thus ruining what we have been looking forward to since we saw it on the poster and heard how it works.
However, at the end of the day I can only give this a LOWWWWWWWWWWW some ole' bullshit on the edge of a Fuck you.For one reason I don't give a fuck you, the story of John Kramer and his legacy and how in the end his intended legacy came to pass.
THIS IS THE RETROSPECTIVE SECTION:
The thing most people look at when they see Saw is the fact it's a Torture porn movie and don't look at something even fans miss, the story of John Kramer and his legacy.
Let me first go into something in Saw: Rebirth, the prequel short story of Saw 1, John finds out he has cancer, he believes he's dead to the world already until he crashes and almost dies and notices how much he values his life has after that, but knows he had to be scarred(he had a piece of metal stuck in his mid section) to come to realize. So with that it becomes his mission in life to show people how to value their life, especially when they have such potential to have good lives but make their own lives shit. In Saw 1, he begins his mission with a few people, Amanda, Gordon and even Zepp and the others, he is quickly recognized by the public for his work and is labeled a monster and a serial killer, however as he quickly retorts that all of the people can get out of his traps which is true. In Saw 2, he again gives people the choice but due to their self destructive natures they ended up screwing themselves over, literally everyone in the saw 2 could have literally not died if they just did as he said and followed the rules.
In Saw 3, a man is again put to the test where he must suffer to help others who have wronged him, John at this point is too weak to make sure his test are fair so his traps designs are tampered by Amanda to be unsolvable in a few cases and it ends up getting him and Amanda killed. In Saw 4, you find out in the end it's running at the same time and it seems Hoffman is running on the same rules but it's twisted and he set up John and Amanda to die thus making him the last living person in the legacy. Saw 5, it's basically Hoffman twisting John's legacy and how John tried to to get hoffman on the right path but Hoffman brushed it off and did his own thing. Saw 6, this is basically Jill finding out her husbands will and carrying it out at first with Hoffman's help then opposing Hoffman as he is going too far.
In Saw 7, this is the story of really wrapping up John's Legacy as Jill dies, Hoffman is left trapped with no way out, and Gordon of all people is shown to be a third helper of john while he was alive and carrying out his will of doing things in Jill's name in John's place after his death. This all Leads back to the set piece of the bathroom where it's literally the end of the line, the series ends after the series trademark "Game over" and locking someone in an apparent no escape situation. Gordon is only doing it to help out John, and everyone else who knows about Jigsaw's methods and way to build his machines is either dead or can no longer do anything to hurt anyone else. if this gave you a new look at the series then my job is done because really this is what I think the film makers meant to get across, John and his legacy, at the same time giving us gorey bloodbaths and morality plays with a decent amount of tension thrown in at points, though I know alot of people don't see it that way.
A couple of quick things though, John was very out there with his approach to this, and while I like him I do understand that his actions are nowhere near legally or socially acceptable, but I do like looking at his life story, to me it's like a Walter White or Tony Montana, a bad guy who at least starts with very good intentions and easily puts him high in my mind of movie villains of the last 15 years let alone horror villains which he's got to be the topper for me.
