SACREUBLEU Quantum Of Solace Review!

Hey Spill, how are you today?

I'm fine, thanks for asking. I just came back from a screening of the new James Bond flick, and boy was it disappointing! Warning, minor spoilers.

The opening scene is very cool and has a lot of potential as do many other stunts throughout the movie...but what's with the Bourne-ish editing? I couldn't figure out half the shit that was going on most of the time and I really felt like the way the scenes were cut didn't work well at all. It's a great shame since many ideas are pretty good!

The rythm is also very uneven, with quite a lot of talking with some ridiculous lines. To be fair, the "boring" sequences are usually interrupted by a big action scene but I never felt "involved" in the action. I saw this movie with two mates and we all liked Casino Royale a lot and expected a cool ride to this new Bond world...but none of us really cared about Bond and what he was trying to do. I had some difficulties to understand the plot, aside the fact that I saw Casino Royale a long time ago...it's just confusing.

The vilain, Dominic Greene isn't very convincing and he really feels like the middle guy, not like the mastermind of an underworld multinational organisation...even though I liked the fact that the baddy doesn't want to blow up the world with some A-bomb for once. Oh and another thing, where did Greene find the petrol to drown the girl in since they are in bolivia and it was said very clearly that no petrol is left....did he fly her to middle east and back?Plus, it's a pretty expensive way to dispose of someone...

Anyway, on a more positive note, it's a nice entertainement but it's just not worth seing it on the big screen, I actually think it'll look better and clearer on a home set! Oh and special mention to the table touchscreen in the MI6 office...I want one of those!

Thnaks for reading!

You should be a little more careful with spoilers... the bit about drowning a girl in petrol may reveal too much.

Bond is using motor Oil which you can buy anywhere and he probably had in his car for ages, cars run on gasoline which you can buy in places where their might not be petrol! The girl is covered in pure petrol which means their is some pure petrol nearby, which is not the case. But anyway, it's a small part of the movie and it's not supposed to make sense.

I'll check out your review, thanks.

OK, i do not usually go mentally and give out Spoilers but Greene did not say there was no Petrol in Bolivia, people told him there was no Petrol in that area he wanted and he was tricking everybody into thinking he was going to find something in that land area and if you going with that logic Bond must have travel to the middle east to get some Motor Oil. There was Petrol in Bolivia because people were driving Motor Vehicles and last time i check not many Electrical Land Rovers in Bolivia

Anyway here my review

I really was not looking forward to it a whole lot to begin with. I didn't think the trailer looked that good, but thanks! I'm glad I don't have to fork over all that money for that anymore.

Sure, he was amazing which made me expect a lot from him in QoS...

Good point.
Besides he was a lot better in Diving Bell and the butterfly.

I'm just looking forward to reading more reviews from members and the Crew even though I'd be surprised to find anyone else as enthusiastic as you about it. I get your point and I agree that Craig is a great Bond. The action could have be very satisfying if only the editing wasn't so confusing...as for Amlmaric, he does a good job as far as acting goes but his character doesn't work: it's more of a script problem to me.

I repspect your opinion as much as anyone Fouapa,I thought that there was a lot of stuff to have liked in it.Craig is easily the best Bond since Connery,Almaic is a great actor and I liked him a lot as Greene, the quality of the action is brilliant and the sets are stunning, especially the final showdown set piece. The only thing it imporives on Casino Royale is that it's a better looking film, but I dont think it's superior,I would say on the samw wavelength and I was satisfied by it.
