Music

Loading…

I guess I should disclose right off the bat that I do not like musicals, but I'd hazard that even those who do might have trouble getting into this trailer for Adam Shankman's 'Rock of Ages.' This star-packed film takes place in 1987 L.A. and is essentially a love story set against an epic rock scene. The film's cast includes Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, and Tom Cruise as fictional rock legend Stacee Jaxx. My problem here is that this looks like the 'Glee' approach to 80s rock and that immediately had me tuning out. Plus, when we actually hear Cruise sing, his voice (or at least the voice they're suggesting is his) sounds like eerily like Weird Al Yankovic. But hey, that's just my opinion. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.

It could be one of those..... Guilty Pleasure movies (similarly to Moulin Rouge and Chicago)

How can you not like musicals?  You like movies?  You like music?  Wizard of Oz?  Sound of Music?  Blues Brothers?  Tenacious D?  Moulin Rouge?  Little Shop of Horrors? Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog?  Aladdin? Lion King?  Any of these ringing a bell?  Sure plenty of musicals are cheesy, and we all know Glee sucks ass, but musicals have been proven to work just like every other genre.  It just depends on whether the narrative is good, the music is good, and they compliment each other.  Movies and music joining forces can lead to a synergy in which the sum is greater than the parts.

It indeed does feel like they put the ''GLEE EFFECT' on 80's rock
