Professor Jeff: Starcraft II Heart of the Swarm Trailers

You know, some days nothing goes right. Take this morning for instance. I rolled out of the Hive and just knew it was going to be a crap day. The Banelings spent all night chewing on the couch, there was no hot Creep in the shower, and as if all that wasn't enough... I wandered over to the Lair and wouldn't you know it? I required more Vespene gas. Some days it just doesn't pay to try to convert the universe into a race of parasitic murders, believe you me.

We can't stop here! This is spoiler country!

So wait. Kerrigan had hair, right? Then, when she turned into a Zerg, she got hair tentacles. I'm with you so far. But now that she's a person again, she's got dreadlocks? Well that's just silly. Are you telling me that they don't have leave-in conditioner in the Starcraft universe? Or maybe being mutated into a ruthless Zerg killing machine has the added side effect of converting you into a Rasta? Do the Zerg spend a lot of time listening to Bob Marley? Because let me tell you... I'm totally on board with that.

For those of you who have been living under a rock for the last year, what we're looking at here are two new trailers for the next chapter in the Starcraft II universe, Heart of the Swarm. Just like Wings of Liberty focused on good old boy Jimmy Raynor and the Terrans' quest for intergalactic country music, Heart of the Swarm will give us a much more intimate look at the Zerg and how their story plays out in the SC universe. Unfortunately it will probably be 2012 before we actually see this expansion, but dammit now I'm riled up all over again.

Ever since the multiplayer aspect of Starcraft became so competitive I've pretty much stuck to the story mode for my kicks, and Blizzard has not disappointed on that front. Hell, even without multiplayer SC II made #4 on my top 10 games of 2010. That level of quality, coupled with the fact that the Zerg have always been my favorite faction, means there's a definite chance that an 'expansion pack' may be on my GOTY list for 2012. But who knows? What do you guys think? Anyone play SC II competitively? Is this franchise still going to be viable in 2014 when the third expansion comes out? Do you have any Vespene Gas that I could borrow? I swear I'll pay you back on Monday.

This Portal 2 fan movie is touching and wonderful. It's not really news, but you should watch it just the same.

I used to be a Blizzard fanboy but not so much nowadays. Wow has seriously turned me off the the company especially after allowing themselves to be bought off by Activision.....ridiculous. That being said Kerrigan's dreadlocks are my biggest complaint, they look downright retarded, with all the creative minds at that studio you'd think they'd find a better way to incorporate the zerg in her than let her keep that stupid hair in her human form.

@Arsène Lupin the Third

I agree, Protoss is the way to go. In my eyes they were the "Predators" of the Star Craft universe.

I still need to upgrade my ol' stone age computer Star Craft II. But I thought that Kerrigan was more... "zerg-y" at the end of brood wars. Did something happen at the end of Wings of Liberty to turn her back into more of a human? And in the teaser, was that blonde chick that Ghost from that Star Craft game that never came out?

Cute portal movie.  I really suck at Starcraft but I am enjoying SC2.  I am glad to hear the campaign holds up because I cannot do competitive online.  I look forward to more games but am not a avid Starcrafter.  Thanks for sharing!

@The Profit

They are indeed.

As for SC II multiplayer I have some friends who are super into it and they seem to think it has legs.  The first game certainly did.

Are the Protoss still in this game?  Sorry, I was a huge fan of the original and haven't had a chance to play any of the new ones.
