My first reaction to seeing the first trailer for the first time was "What!? a video game movie that looks good? Disney? Jerry Bruckhiemer??" So let's see how that faired out.

First of all, this movie is nothing original, obviously. Besides taking many things from the games, such as the platforming and action, the vague story, and the dagger, is also borrows from Assassin's Creed, The Scorpion King (the whole "make your own destiny" thing"), The Mummy, Aladdin, Hamlet (the family can't decide who should rule!), and Indiana Jones. It fairs out to be a pretty good combination.
Jake does a pretty good job. His character is likable, funny, does well in his action scenes that aren't his stunt double, and gives a good reason why guys can drag their girlfriends to see this with them.
One thing I will criticize about the movie is its pacing; its awkward many a times. And some of the one liners are too cheesy, but they don't hurt the movie. And what's with the tax jokes??
I have to agree with IGN in their video review of this movie: the movie reflects present day beliefs of that region. "We're going after weapons that aren't really there! We want something else!" haha
I was also surprised with who else was in this movie. Dr. Octopus, is that you with a love for ostriches? Isn't that girl a model? His eyeliner wearing uncle looked familiar, so did his brother.
Overall, a great movie, which earned my friend Ed's "Best Video Game Movie Adaptation" seal of approval. Now that's saying something, and I think I also agree. Resident Evil: Afterlife will have to step it up, regardless of its 3D, because IMO, the Resident Evil movies have gotten better with each film.
Spill Rating... Matinée
Now what I wanna know, how did no one in the movie ever complain about getting sand in their eyes?? Especially at the end there!! Damn digital sand!
