If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Just like the actual buccaneers of old, the fifth installment of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise is apparently setting sail into uncharted waters. According to one source, Disney has evidently selected Puerto Rico as the filming location for 'PotC 5,' the previous four having been filmed mostly in Hawaii. From this report, it seems Disney wants to begin filming part five in November of this year. With 'Pirates 4' raking in so much cash, mostly overseas, it's not surprising that the studio would want to do a fifth. What is surprising however is that they are moving forward without confirmation that all of the principal cast members will be returning. The film also currently has no director. In fact, it is uncertain whether the script is even finished. No word yet on a proposed release date.
By and large, I haven't been thrilled with the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' sequels. 'Dead Man's Chest' certainly had its moments, but things sort of spiraled out of control with that storyline. I didn't hate 'On Strangers Tides,' but none of these films have been able to recapture the magic of that first outing. It's never a good sign when a movie is rushed into production before the script has been finalized and adequate time has been taken to make sure the story is solid. I'm not saying they can't finish the script before November, but the writers are immediately under the gun once such an impending start date is selected. Johnny Depp has been signed, but what about the rest of the cast? Oh, and they still don't have a director! Shouldn't all these details be hammered out before production begins?
What do you guys think? Do we need another 'Pirates of the Caribbean?' Does the hasty production schedule trouble you?
