PCP's Weekly Dose: Watch the Throne Review

We haven't reviewed an album in a long time so now seems to be as good a time as any to do one. Jay-Z and Kanye West have combined their efforts culminating in Watch the Throne. We run down the track list (after a quick run with death aka Audie) and give our two cents as hip-hop fans. Is this the most anticipated album in rap? Does it live up to the hype? Did we stumble upon the next great hit in rap game parody music? Is Amber Rose a deaf-mute? Probably not. But, be sure to tell us what you thought of the album. Don't forget to come back on Wednesday for 041: Wrestling II. Oh, and Morgan Freeman should be a part of everything.

I like the album but I think Kayne's and Jay's last solo albums were better than this joint one.

You can try using Audacity to record for the podcast it works well. But it can crash from time to time. You can also try Skype Recorder.

Actually, I'm running OSX so CG is out of the question. There are alternative plugins but, most of the good ones aren't freeware. The ones that are like the ecam and audio hijack trials are pretty resource-intensive with 3-4 mics running as well (crashing mid-show has been an issue for us in the past).

You can try Call Graph or Skype Recorder to record sykpe calls. You will have to adjust the settings to what you want. Remember to leave it on mono (for recording) to hear the play back in stereo.

Skype Recorder

By the way Josteo, I did the testing for VOIP recording and have gotten some mixed results. I'm want to try another program because, as is, things just sound like recording a song played off of the radio.

While I'd love to think that this album was made just for fun, all of the planning, listening sessions and some of the cerebral subject matter on a few of the songs lead me to believe otherwise. Plus I doubt that Kanye and Jay-Z of all people would name an album something as profound as Watch The Throne if they didn't wanna put people on notice. It's an easy album to just listen to for the hell of it and the general public is responding well to it, but when you consider what both guys are capable of they just simply didn't live up to their abilities. With that being said though, we did commend Jay for being good (and sometimes great) on the album. It was Kanye you had a lackluster lyrical showing for the most part

I actual love this album and I think you guys have to understand this album was made for fun. Nothing more nothing less. Jay-Z and Kanye expermented new styles of making rap/hip-hop music. This album is not post to be like a Outkast ablum where you have a Andre 3000 side then a Big Boi side. This Album was made to see how far they can push creativity in making a hip-hop album. I'm sure later on they will release all the song that didn't make the cut as some kind of bonus album. I also feel that some of the lines that both Jay-Z and Kanye say fly over people's heads all the time.

For example, on the song Otis “Bueller had a Muller, but I switched it for a Mille.” ’cause I’m richer, and prior to this shit was moving freebase.”-HOV (source)

1. Franck Muller watch
2. Richard Mille watch, which he’s pronouncing as “milli” ’cause he’s richer
3. Richer, which he’s pronouncing as Richard
4. Prior, which he’s pronouncing as Pryor
5. Richard Pryor starred in a movie called ‘Moving’ in 1988 and also suffered severe burns in 1980 while freebasing cocaine

Overall, I give the album an A.
