Going to try and do this for every movie I watch from now on.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Alright, I went into Paranormal Activity with little hopes, expecting neither a good nor bad film.

Boy, was I disappointed.

The movie, atleast in my eyes, was not scary at all. I found it to be too predictable, and while they did some cool things with such a small budget, it didn't work for me in the scare department. The most unsettling part of the film, for me, was the concept of it. What we were shown didn't scare me, but the idea around it left me a bit unsettled.

The acting isn't bad, but it's nothing to write home about. Katie/Micah do a good job of playing these characters, but I felt this wasn't a movie that was based on the acting. The best character was the demon, honestly.

Where the movie lacked in actual scares, it succeeded in suspense. Even during the day, you still kind of felt weary of the house, and what was going on in the background.

The other best part about the film was actually the crowd. They provided a great atmosphere, screaming, gasping, and being animated when the demon was around. Some people were crying. If I saw this alone, or with a less animated crowd, the movie would not have been half as good as it was.

The ending was probably the creepiest part of the film, but I'm starting to find that watching Katie just stand, staring at Micah while he's sleeping, or just sitting on the swing outside was much, MUCH creepier than the demon's little tricks. When she's laying in bed during the day, and Micah leaves (you know what scene I'm talking about), and then she says like "Everything will be ok" smiles, then closes her eyes, I got chills on my legs.

Overall, it's kind of hard to rate this film. I'd give it a 5/10.

It's something that if you want to see, it MUST, MUST be in a theater, at night, with a crowd of other people.

So there with you, man. For a movie touted as one of the best horror movies of all time, it seriously fails to live up to its hype.
