If it's crap ... We'll tell you
I have to admit I wasn't expecting much from last year's 'Ted.' After all, it was the first live-action comedy from Seth MacFarlane, the creator of 'Family Guy.' Never mind the fact that 'Family Guy' had been waning dramatically in quality in recent seasons, that's a tough crossover for anyone. However, 'Ted' proved to be extremely funny and gave MacFarlane a renewed energy. That's why I am so looking forward to his upcoming comedy western 'A Million Ways to Die in the West.' So far, the cast for this project is insanely impressive: Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Sarah Silverman, and Giovanni Ribisi. Now it looks like we can add Neil Patrick Harris to that equation. This news came in conjunction with the announcement that the film's official release date will be May 30th, 2014. Harris has been gaining a great deal of popularity as Barney Stinson on the CBS series 'How I Met Your Mother.'
NPH?! Hell yes! Like I said, I was already aboard with 'A Million Ways to Die in the West' based on its cast and how much I thoroughly enjoyed 'Ted.' It also seems very fitting that, as 'How I Met Your Mother' draws to a close, Seth MacFarlane's new movie would be his next step. As most of us remember, Harris' breakthrough role was that of inordinately young TV doctor Doogie Howser. However, he experienced a major resurgence when he appeared as himself in 'Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.' The joke was that seemingly squeaky clean NPH was, in real life, a total sleazebag. He was able to then parlay this into playing Barney on 'HIMYM,' not to mention reprise the role of himself spectacularly in 'A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.' I have no doubt, given MacFarlane's sense of humor, that 'A Million Ways to Die in the West' will be a rather crass comedy, and Harris has already proven he can handle those types of jokes just fine. I find myself in agreement with the author of the source article, in that I really hope that NPH gets to sing at some point in the film. Again, MacFarlane's track record would suggest that we will be treated to at least one musical number, perhaps in a saloon/brothel run by...Neil Patrick Harris.
What do you guys think? Are you excited NPH is joining the cast? Who might he play?
