If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Because you asked for it, and by "you" I mean "no one," it looks like we will be getting another 'Boondock Saints' movie. The franchise, created by Troy Duffy, revolves around the MacManus brothers, a pair of blue-collar assassins who eliminate the more despicable criminal elements in their Boston community, those who tend to escape prosecution. The sequel found the brothers hiding out with their father in Ireland until being pulled back to Boston by the murder of their beloved priest. In a recent interview, Norman Reedus (who plays Murphy MacManus) revealed that there is in fact a 'Boondock Saints III' in the works...
“I’m meeting with Sean [Patrick Flanery] and Troy [Duffy] tonight. I just landed a couple hours ago and tonight I’m going over to Troy’s house with Sean. It’s definitely in the works. Look for it. It’s gonna be crazy.”
I hate to be so pessimistic about this project, because I loved the first 'Boondock Saints.' It was released while I was in high school and was one of the first instances I can remember wherein I bought a DVD blind and ended up really digging the movie. I remember hearing talk for years after that about a sequel and couldn't wait to see it. I ended up waiting a decade for an incredibly sub par second outing I wish I could forget. It is 'Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day' that has me skeptical of a part three. My hope is that this meeting Reedus is referring to will yield a stronger script and that this won't just be another ill-advised, direct-to-video sequel. I will say I gained new respect for Reedus on 'The Walking Dead,' which is somewhat heightening my hope for 'Boondock Saints III.' Somewhat.
What do you guys think? Any 'Boondock Saints' fans out there? Are you interested in a third one or is this a bad idea from the get-go?
