If it's crap ... We'll tell you
It's not always a safe bet that video games based on films are of high quality (in fact making bets in the opposite direction will more often prove wise) but I have to say I am intrigued by the trailer for Activision/Beenox's 'Amazing Spider-Man' game. Forget The Lizard or The Sandman - this time Spider-Man is fighting giant goddamn robots! The graphics are pretty stunning and it's interesting to note that the newscaster at first doesn't seem to know who Spider-Man is, calling him merely "someone" who is fighting back against the robots and then later calling him by name. This seems to fit with the fact that the upcoming film (on which the game is based) is a reboot of the franchise. Beyond that, the game seems to be doing its own thing in a BIG way. As far as the "movie tie-in game curse" goes, Beenox is using essentially the same engine for 'The Amazing Spider-Man' game as they have in their previous two Spider-Man games: 'Shattered Dimensions' and 'Edge of Time' so it's not as rushed as most tie-in games usually are (typically a factor in their poor quality). In fact, a major reason 'Edge of Time' was rushed through production was because Beenox was co-developing 'TASM'at the same time. However, one welcome change in the franchise is that Beenox is finally moving back towards an open-world platform (popular in earlier Spidey games) instead of their recent linear focus, a first for the company since taking over the rights. Take a look at the trailer below and tell us what you think.
