Actor Vin Diesel posted some new concept art on his official facebook for the upcoming sequel 'Riddick', marking the return of the popular character that made him famous. Betrayed and abandoned by his own people, Riddick must fight off alien predators and bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy but the hunters become the hunted when Riddick decides to exact his revenge and return home.

Diesel also released some information on the filming of the sequel: shooting will take place in Canada (which is where 'Chronicles of Riddick' was also shot) and to ease any doubt about the project, he assured fans that the the film will have an R-rating when it hits theaters in 2012.

I loved both of the Riddick films so I'm really looking forward to this one two. I'm hoping we learn more about that world and the people in it, because that's what attracts me most to those films.

Fuck yes. This is one of my favorite modern sc-fi IPs. I actually enjoyed 'Chronicles' quite a bit, except for Jack's character and a general sense of melodrama (give it a break, people!). With better acting and a more intelligent script, it could have been far better. The action sequences were very memorable for me, especially the last fight between Riddick & the main baddie. That dude's spirit-self ability was really cool, and pretty representative of the movie as a whole. It was chock full of neat ideas that were implemented a little shallowly and superficially.

Anyway, I think this franchise just seethes that 'coolness' only atmospheric, gritty SF can capture, and I will welcome this future installment with much anticipation :-)

The more they distance themselves from Chronicles of Riddick, the better.
