Hey people its TorTor here just simply giving my top ten list of 2008 despite it being a little on the late. I figured since I've been a Spill member for two months why not make a top 10 list as sort of an introduction to other members on this site.
In the words of Slick Rick: "Heeeeeerre We Go"
10. The Spirit
F**k the haters I loved this film despite how campy and over the top it is. Sure I saw it as a Matinee but I would've paid Full Price nonetheless. I think this is sort of the downside to TDKs impact beacause now everyone now wants to see a dark fucked up superhero film. Plus cmon it was a FUCKING PARODY from the tongue in cheek humor to the nods to other comics (Sin City Watchmen).
9. Funny Games
Sure it's not as dumbed down and saturated with gore like more successful horror/thriller films (Saw, Hostel) but honestly this is one one the greatest horror films I have ever seen. Well direction and great acting are this films strengths. A little slow here and there but still interesting enough to keep you watching.
8. Cloverfield AKA Blair Witch WITH A GIANT FUCKING MONSTER!!!!!!
This movie for a January film was far more entertaining than most summer releases. This is FUCKING EPIC as a monster movie. Held me in suspense and scared the shit outta me.
7. Zach and Miri Make A Porno
Where's Kevin Smith been since Clerks 2? Writing this underated comedy gem.
6. Tropic Thunder
Four words: ROBERT DOWNEY FUCKING JR!!!!!!!!
He owned throughout the entire film.
5. HellBoy 2: The Golden Army
Beautiful visually which makes up for its somewhat flawed story.
4. Iron Man
What can I Say RDJ has had one helluva comeback year with two caliber performances in two great films. The final battle could've been a lot more than what it was though. Other than that another classic superhero film this is.
3. The Wrestler
Five words this time: Mickey Rourke For Best Actor.
2. In Bruges
Colin Ferell, Brandon Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes are great in this film. This is THE BEST
Dark Comedy film I've seen since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I'm actuallly hoping this film wins the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
And Now.......The......... Number......... One..........Film........Of .....2008...... IS!!!!!!!!!
THE DARK KNIGHT!!!!!
This movie is just superb. (I rarely ever use that word to describe something people) The Direction, cinematography, cast, all is damn near perfect in this film. Sure it got snubbed and yeah it has its detractors but this film will stand the test of time I am damn sure of that. Heath Ledger For Best Supporting Actor R.I.P
