My Thoughts On The Recent South Park Muhammad Controversy

For those of you that don't know South Park recently aired a two part episode that had the islamic prophet Muhammad in it keep in mind that he was never shown in the episode and one of the jokes was that he had to be put in a bear suit so that the town of south park doesn't get blow up and apparently they were going to show the image of Muhammad in the next episode however some crazy islamic radical website sent death threats to the creators of South Park Trey Parker and Matt Stone even going so far as to show a picture of Theo Van Gogh a filmmaker who was killed because he made a short film about the way women are treated in Islam. So because of this Comedy Central added extra bleeps to the second part of the episode bleeping out the word Muhammad and bleeping out the "What I learned today" speech at the end of the episode which according to Trey and Matt had nothing to do with Muhammad and Islam. They recently posted this on their website regarding the controversy.

"In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to
Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It
wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In
fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It
didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back
next week with a whole new show about something completely different and
we'll see what happens to it".

I think that it's really sad to see Comedy Central just give in to this bullshit I mean South Park has been around since the 90's and it has pretty much offended everybody but this is the first ever where things have gotten so bad that someone posted fucking death threats to Trey and Matt when they really didn't mock or portray Muhammad in a bad way hell they even portrayed him in a positive way in "Super Best Friends".

Again I think Comedy Central should have just told whoever posted those death threats this "Hey we understand what your saying but see here's the thing we don't follow your religion so we can show the image of Muhammad on our show" or something like that but to just give in and say "Oh, sorry Mr.Muslim extremist you're right we're wrong we'll make sure we'll never do anything to mock the Islamic faith again" I mean wow just wow that just goes to show you that Comedy Central is run by a bunch of cowards I mean it's okay to show Buddha doing coke or Jesus looking at porn but it's not okay to show Muhammad oh no.

I really hate to sound like an asshole but I think it's really hard to buy Islam as a peaceful religion when people who claim to follow it keep doing crazy shit like this.Oh and what really pisses me off is that because of this controversy Comedy Central has also taken down the episode "Super Best Friends" from the main website. I mean what's next huh? Are they gonna take down cartoon wars because they mention Muhammad?

I really think that Muslims should try and learn to deal with this type of stuff I mean let's face it the world we live in is not perfect so instead of sending out death threats to people you don't even know maybe you could just learn and except the fact that no everyone in this world shares your views on things because they don't follow your religion.

a letter to south park

Wtf guys! First off I love comedy central and this is not hate mail. But when I read the reason about the bullshit censorship on last week’s episode of South Park I have enraged. That u would let idol threats stop u from broadcasting the full version of your show. And if it was concord as a joke then it way off bases. We need shows like South Park to tear down all the bull shit censorship we have in our country. A country that was funded on the principles of free speech. One of the only place’s in the world wear u can say ANY THING and u might be a dick for it but and u might be wrong on every level but no one will hurt u for saying it! And if they do they go to jail. And no church or idealistic leader can stop u for paying for your crime because (god ) sed it was cool. Censorship can be a very slippery slope. But not as a slippery slope as giving in to demands because some backwards ass religious followers say they will bomb u if u doesn’t think and as they do. Well u know what I say? Fuck them and their god. And that goes for anyone who threatens my freedom of speech. America is far far from perfect. But if we don’t have the curge to stand up for what we believe in then it’s already too late. I truly am sad to see a show as progressive as South Park who makes it there job not to just make fun of people but to make it not so taboo to do so. I look up to shows and people who are not afraid to stand up and say “hey it is my right as a free man or woman to say whatever crazy shit come out of my mouth knowing that my fellow Americas might not like what I say. But are more than willing to fight and die just so I can do just that.” Just plz keep that in mind next time u decide to censor a show that u do it for a real reason. Like if the shit is not funny or it’s just lame. But if u do it out of fear that someone somewhere (MIGHT) might hurt u then to me that’s the same as spiting in the faces of every man and woman that gave their life to give and protect your ‘RIGHT’ to do so.
Always a fan and supporter of what u do at south park, daily show and all of comedy centralPvt.Scott

Preach on, I mean a long time ago I learned to except that the Jesus on South Park is not my Jesus; he is just a figment of Parker and Stone's imagination based on the idea of Jesus. The sad thing is I'm sure there are lots of Muslims who don't care and would love to have Islam represented in the media and there not be a negative stereotype, But how can they when negative extremist come every time Mohammed is mentioned.

i would be lying if i said i a completely approved of them showing the prophet muhammad, because to us showing the image itself is offensive, even without negative connotation. However, i'm certainly not going to threaten them with death over something like that,

and people are overeacting to this guy's so called 'threats' the person in queston, even stated that he's not making threats. i've even heard some articles call it "jihadist" when in reality, accroding to islam, this man doesn't have the religous authority to call upon jihad or even decree fatwa. . the real imams in the US, don't make threats, don't spread hate. and generally keep to themselves and have an acceptance and tolerance of the goings on. they may make a statement dis-approving of certain conduct, but they will NOT call for violence.

it ticks me off a lot too. I mean the creators of south park only make fun of EVERY religion they don't just single out Islam. Yet the Islam groups don't understand this and with all the bleeps that they put in the last episodes I could barely hear a thing. I hope the uncensored episode is released one day.
