If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Aaron posted a statusHey, hey guys, what if we took our great idea of a horror game, and make it action packed with lots of gun fights and rockets and throw in a crappy cover system, surely that won't annoy our fans! - Says Visceral Games....
Really when your cover system is a simple crouch, that's saying a lot about how you planned for more action in your game, cause they really didn't plan it at all, if the gun fights are there to give you a breather from what horror there is now, they blew it.
You shouldn't have to have more action in a horror game cause it doesn't call for it, you had my attention with the horror and fleshed out enemies. To find the enemies looking like they got ready for the cold and the bosses looking like they stepped out of Lost Planet seems like a downgrade, and a lack of horror makes your game annoying with the repeat of the same horde of undead rushing you, caked in with a gun fight here and there... I'm sorry, but this is the biggest disappointment in games for February.
Stick to the creepy look, heck I had nightmares about the Dead Space 2 daycare level, I wanted to hide in a corner when fighting The Hunter... Hard to feel anything for a bunch of miners dressed in winter coats and a psycho cult trying to kill you....

I had said you don't see human enemies "again" till hours into the game. I'm only about 10 hours in, so if it gets ridiculus i have to take your word for it. As of right now, It's not wave after wave of Necros. but when a few of them come at you at once with faster speeds than you're used to it's a shock at first. Run and gun doesn't work. I find myself using the same tactical dismemberment and stasis to get through a tough fight. This is never constant. You do have time to breathe and have the tension set in before you're attacked again.
This feels like the same conversation i have with fans of the Alien films. I love the first film, but i can't say Aliens isn't just as good. Some people say it takes away everything that made the first film great. Dead Space is your Alien, and Dead Space 3 {so far} is my Aliens! When it come to Dead Space. The second game is my favorite. I tried to replay the first game, and the old feeling i had the first time through is lost in time. Who knows where part three will end up. I'm happy with it so far. Even if it ends up not being on par with the other Dead Space games. I can tell you right now that i think it's a good game.
...It kinda sucks that i haven't had to worry about ammo or health, and i'm playing through on HARD! I still find myself dying here and there, but it's never because i'm out of health. Why even have the option to buy or create it if it's everywhere you look.
Comment by Frushay on February 6, 2013 at 7:55am Man you sound like you haven't even played Dead Space 3, you get thrown into a gun fight in the very few minutes of the game, so that whole you don't meet people in the hours of the game is kind of B.S. cause you mean John and Robert right off the bat as well. It's nothing like the other two, where Dead Space 2 had the urban look it had more scares than this game, I only jumped twice and I'm in chapter 14 cause how can I be scared of poor looking enemies like the skinny nercos that just rush you in packs, to the awkward gun fights that break out during the nercos attack.
To say it's not like RE:6 is a lie, you're clearly thrown into a fire fight and the nercos running at you, with no true cover system you have to keep moving, so you got two opinions to be blown up by a hail of bullets and rockets, or been beaten up by the horde of undead.
Maybe you're not in the later levels, but this feels just like RE:6 to me, so yes this game is bullshit to me cause they're not sticking to what made it work, they rather throw in guns as the driving point, when it should be horror, that's what made Dead Space good, not the lame weapons. Plus with the co-op there's no limit for the single player, I feel like I'm facing more enemies than I should in a normal Dead Space game, it feels like I'm repeatedly getting enemies thrown at me which kills the horror even more, there's no real break from the action at all in the later levels. They did it so well in the later Dead Spaces they built the action up at the very peak of the game, now, it just feels like a dull run and gun game. I just can't enjoy a game that sank so low to appeal more people.
It sounds like you haven't played it yet. It's classic Dead Space after the tutorial section. It has moments where Necromorphs swarm you, but these are spread between classic Dead Space exploration. You don't even come into contact with human enemies again till hours into the game. Necros are your main enemy. You don't face humans very often, so ducking is a waste because you only use it against them.
You can say Dead Space 3 isn't as good as the other two all you want. What you can't say is it's not Dead Space anymore. This game may differ from the tone of the first, but it's not far from the second in terms of feel and familiarity. I can't speak on co-op yet, but it's safe to say the game will lose all sense of terror and dread when playing it. That said, i can't wait to play it with my friends after i beat it. When the action does spike in this game, it's much more in line with RE4 than the mess of RE6. The single player is where fans will feel at home. Don't let minor things stop you from playing a very entertaining Dead Space experience.
