If it's crap ... We'll tell you
For about the last three or four years I have been a relatively active member on the website Spill.com. Spill.com is a film focused website, that host a multitude of information on current movies including audio reviews, some of which get turned into their signature animated movie reviews that which are always comedic and given one of their unique ratings. They also on a weekly basis release several podcasts. What makes this movie stand out from other movie sites beside the way the reviews are done, is that Spill.com is a very community focused website.
One of the coolest features of this site that sets it apart from movie news sites is that a lot of the content is user generated which gives people really great opportunities! The community of Spill although not that large, around 30,000 or so has grown over the last 6 years. The site has actually grown enough that last 2 years. That in Austin, Texas, where the website started, they had a huge event called Spill Dot Con where members could come and meet and greet each other, as well as the Spill Crew. The site is mainly focused on attracting people who are interested in movies, comics, videogames, and some television. This website mainly provides though, really down to earth opinions on film and it’s really interesting to hear their opinions especially when they clash.
This website could be best described as a movie review website with a chip on it’s shoulder. A guy named Korey Coleman who really wanted to do something with two things he loved, animation and movies created it. The way that the reviews are done is they just record with the crew a review of the film and have just a free flowing conversation on the movie and then its edited into a animated review. Although they just animated their 300th review they have recorded well over 300 reviews and hundreds of hours of podcast.
This website was recently redesigned and it made it easier to all of their content which is great because before once their carousel of four main articles or reviews or what ever. It would disappear forever. Now there are lists of all their content organized in order. There is not really much I would change about spill.com I love this site the way it is. The only thing I would change is great rid of this useless section called “ACTORS” that really doesn’t bring anything to site, the only thing is that apparently on one of their podcasts they brought up this problem but said that they get a lot of traffic that comes through because of that section. Brings me to the daily traffic the site gets which is in the low thousand s depending on which day it is and what has been posted. Some reviews will get 30-50 comments while other more popular podcasts will get 20 pages of comments. The website gets tons of traffic on a daily basis because the site is unpredictable and could randomly have live podcasts but is constantly being updated which is great.
Of all the websites that I could get my information on movies from Spill.com is my favorite because of the feel of how small it is and their really great attention to their users makes this site a really inviting and easy to get into. The people on here are great, the spill crew is really funny and they’re opinions are real. You get more a feel that you are talking to your friends and what they think of the movie more than a really egotistical guy getting paid by a studio for his opinion.
