If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Aaron posted a statusIf you live in Japan you might know that only a slight percent of movies make box office hits. Such movies as Skyfall The Hobbit Argo and Les Miz only come early because the studio knows it can make profit. Other movies are left behind because The Japanese studios are releasing the movie when it's right or they have no idea what to do with the property. But here are some movies that I am really exited to see in theaters and home.
Life of Pi 1/24
Jack Reacher 2/1
Moonrise Kingdom 2/8
Zero Dark Thirty 2/15
Dredd 2/16
Silver Linings Playbook 2/22
Django Unchaind 3/1
Flight 3/1
21 Jump Street 3/6 (DVD premiere)
The Cabin in the Woods 3/9
Cloud Atlas 3/15
Searching for Sugar Man 3/16
The Master 3/22
Wreck it Ralph 3/23
And that's about it for now. My advise is if you are a true movie lover and have the freedom to live anywhere you want to don't live in Japan.

Comment by Octo Plop on January 22, 2013 at 6:25pm The only website Koreans use for anything as far as I can tell is NAVER. It is terrible with sponsored, filtered search results. Streaming movies is not something I have heard about here but will investigate today.
The only titles you can 'rent' are recent releases, there is no market for anything old in this culture. Sad times.
Comment by Satoshi on January 22, 2013 at 4:47pm Hi again I have a question. Do you have a Yahoo movies site over in Korea? because if you do the release date to all movies that are coming are listed there. BTW I love I saw the devil so I'm curious to see The Last Stand.
Comment by Octo Plop on January 22, 2013 at 7:10am I get most of my dates from IMDb but like I say I cannot find dates for some. Django, The Last Stand (Korean director so thought that would be there) to name a couple that are elusive at the minute. I usually have to guess the dates in relation to nearby countries but that is not reliable. Cloud Atlas is in its 3rd week here but does not reach you till March and Dredd was here ages ago. It sucks.
I hear you on dubs, horrible things they are!

I have serious issues as well about movies I don't intend to see gets special treatment. (For example Dark Shadows). You can however find some movie release dates in Korea at IMDB.com Lastly I can't stand dubbed versions of movies but, that's another conversation.
Comment by Octo Plop on January 22, 2013 at 1:57am word, Korea is very similar in many respects. Some of the things you list have been and gone here, others I cannot/have not found a release date for so have no idea if/when they will ever even be shown. It also fucks me off no end when a film I want to see gets a one week run with only a handful of showings. It fucks me off even more when a film I have no intention of seeing takes up 3 screens for a month (Jack Black Gullivers Travels can get to fuck)...
On one hand I am very happy that these countries have strong industries that can dominate their own BO but on the other, well, I want to go see films I fucking understand.
