Here's a list in no particular order of films I saw a couple of times and wanted to like them, but had to come clean:
THE LOST WORLD - JURASIC PARK (1997)
Now that you can just flick the Discovery Channel on and see photoreal dinosaurs, the urges to watch The Lost World are few and far between; after all, Jurassic Fight Club is a helluva lot of fun, especially without such baggage as screaming kids and characters you don't care about. Just watch Lost World producer Kathleen Kennedy roll her eyes in the DVD making of doco when talking about the tacked on SanDiego incident climax. I watched this several times at the cinema and all the while, not feeling the wonder that I had with the original.
The smug bastards who made this were so convinced this film was gonna blow everybody away. I guess they were riding on the wave of success of Independence day and the great potential that came with a modern take on the source material. Watching this film was like being set up with a date you're not really sure of, but you give it your best shot; when it all goes to shit you're both quietly relieved and at a loss as to why you convinced yourself that it was all worth it.
More titles to come...stay tuned!
