More 'Paranormal Activity' In Our Future

Break out the video camera, keep your ears open for strange noises, and throw away that infernal Ouija board because we haven't experienced our last 'Paranormal Activity.' Paramount has announced that they are adding 'Paranormal Activity 4' to their 2012 schedule although they didn't say exactly when in 2012 it would be hitting theaters. 2011's 'Paranormal Activity 3,'which cost a scant $5 million to produce, netted the studio over $202 million. Overall the franchise has grossed well over $500 million so this announcement of a fourth film is not exactly surprising. No word yet on who might be pegged to direct the fourth installment.

I have mixed feelings about this bit of news. On the one hand, of course there's going to be another 'Paranormal Activity,' I don't think any of us expected the series to fade away as a trilogy. These films cost next to nothing to produce and, especially now that they've become a brand unto themselves, the extremely high returns are all but guaranteed. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see 'Paranormal Activity' reach 'Saw' or even 'Friday the 13th' sequel numbers until their grosses wane. And while no release date has yet been set, I think precedent dictates that 'Paranormal Activity 4'will be released sometime in October to capitalize on Halloween. My only hope here is, and I'm sure some would argue this has already happened, that they not allow the concept to become stale and repetitive. So far I feel there has been an attempt to keep things fresh even within the same construct and I hope that the endless quest for more box office dollars does not supersede that.

What do you guys think? Are you at all interested in another 'PA' film?

I really like the PA series and each movie is overall better than the last. If they can keep that up, than I don't mind. I do think they need to get around to a proper sequel to PA1 this time around. Can't really go back much further into the past now, unless they want to clear up what exactly happened to the mother.

Actually while I agree with many of the problems people find in these movies - most notably the lack of payoff at the end - I actually think they are steadily getting better. The 3rd one had a definite improvement in overall story structure IMO, and I've always wanted to see a found footage movie with a better payoff, and that COULD be PA4+

Making a quick buck out of films that don't cost that much money and has a large following of psycological horror fans?!

These are just actors and production not worth $500 million. Stop them please! All of the series are rental crap.
