If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Slender Dan posted a statusTonight I watched MI2 for the second time. The first time was when the third film came out. It sparked my interest and I got the trilogy on dvd. With the forth one out they just released the trilogy on Blu-ray so I decided to get it because knew I'd be getting the Blu-ray version of the forth. As a collector I wanted the HD upgrade. This review is solely about the film and not about the HD transfer.
I'm having a hard time remember what I thought of my first viewing of MI2. It was 5 or 6 years ago. I have seen a lot of movies and listen to many reviews since then. My taste in movies has grown for the better. At least that is what I tell myself. That being said this movie was bad. I had no investment in it what so ever. The most tense scene was whether or not Ethan's tether was going to clear the vent in time. The first half of the movie was so boring, and it wasn't till half way into the movie that MIF actual went to do a job.
The first half hour you get a plane crashing into a mountain, mountain climbing, and waltzing cars... wtf John woo?! The movie is based around the "love" story of Ethan and Nyah. It's really trying to push this on the audience but I never brought it. They have 2 flirtatious encounters before they hook once and then Nyah goes on mission. One night of passion does not constitute Ethan's undying love for this woman. I would understand if he just didn't want her to die because he got her into this mess but I don't bye him doing it for the love the two of them feel.
If you buy into their love you might enjoy the movie more, but I never did. I couldn't get behind Ethan's motivation and the film fell flat for me. The story is underwhelming to say the least. The plot is straight forward as fuck. Maybe if it had a mystery that might of distracted from the bs love stroy.
You might be thinking but Joseph it's an action movie it doesn't need I good story. This can be true if the action is entertaining, but sadly it's not. It is just over the top ridiculousness. Slow-mo waltzing cars... Pidgins and doves... motorcycle chase scene at the end...ahhhh!
Another thing this movie could of done was wowed me with crazy technology, but this movie was lacking that. The one thing they used, way to much I might add, was the face masks. In the beginning of the movie it was establish Ambros could look like Ethan because he had similar facial structure. MI has it's own universe with it's own rules. There are certain things I can let slip. I can buy into the face masks but not how they were used at the end. *Spoiler* How did Ethan know to have that guys face handy? What if it was the other henchman that came out. Not only did he know magically what face he needed but he managed to put his face on the bad guy and put the face of the bad guy on his in under minute. That pulled me out of the movie. In the third one they have the face masks again but they at least try and make it seem plausible which makes the ending of MI 2 even more stupid.
Now for the final chase and climatic fight. Can I start off by asking why does everyone have sunglasses on?! Ethan actually stops shooting so he can slip on his shades. I know that's more of nit pick but still. Hunt does a 180 turn twice throughout the chase where he shoots the red shirts that are on his tail. It was kind of cool the first time, but dull the second time around. The finale fight was decent. It had some good choreography in it. My problem with it and with the movie as whole is that it's over stylized. The fight is broken up with cuts of crashing waves and slow-mo. Say what you will about Zach Snyder but at least when he does slow motion people get hurt or brutally killed. John Woo does it for every little fucking thing. Ethan and Nyah stealing a glance across the room, pidgins landing, doves flying, hair waving, etc. The worst of this was the scene when Nyah was meeting Ambrose and Ambrose epicly catches her scarf. Did really need to see that in slow motion?
This is my first review. I apology for grammar and spelling. Proof reading is not my strongest aspect. I plan to do more reviews with movies, books and games. Any feed back would help and be greatly appreciated. I want to do my own rating system but for now I will borrow spill's and give Mission Impossible 2 some old bull shit!! Thanks for reading I hope it was helpful or at least entertaining.
