'Lost' star Matthew Fox has been out of the spotlight pretty much since the hit show ended, but the 44-year old actor will be making his return to feature films as a serial killer in the upcoming reboot "I, Alex Cross". The Alex Cross series, written by novelist James Patterson, is hugely successful and has previously been made into two films: "Along Came a Spider" and "Kiss the Girls", both featuring Morgan Freeman as Cross - a Washington, D.C. detective and psychologist. Fox joins Ed Burns and Tyler Perry, who was recently cast as the franchise's new Alex Cross.

In the film, Matthew Fox will be playing against type as the villain - a man named Michael Sullivan aka "The Butcher of Sligo" who kills for money and the pure thrill of it. When Alex Cross thwarts one of his attempts, Sullivan proves his nickname by gruesomely killing Cross's wife, leading to a deadly game of cat-and-mouse between the two. Known for playing the good guy, Fox's last big film role was as Racer X in 2008's "Speed Racer".

Directed by Rob Cohen ('The Fast and the Furious'), and written by Mark Moss (who also wrote 2001's "Along Came a Spider"), it is hoped that the film will kickstart the dormant franchise for the 17-book series.

I'm still bummed that Idris Elba didn't get this part.  He would have been perfect as Alex for me.  Hopefully Tyler Perry does a great job as well.  He was decent in Star Trek even though it was a small part.

My big question is why aren't they calling this movie Cross?  That is the book this plot is from.  "I, Alex Cross" is a different novel.  Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing Fox play the Butcher.

It will also be interesting to see where they go with this series since they are starting with a plot from the 12th book.  Will he be with Brianna?  Will the kids and nana be around?  When will the entire Mastermind arch take place?  Because that's what I really want to see.  I assume they will just change the timeline drastically.

Wait, replace Morgan Freeman with Tyler F'n Perry??? Who the hell thought that was a good idea? Some white nerd bean counter looking only at the bottom line. I can think of a lot of fine black actors to play that role but Tyler Perry? Tyler does have his strenghts but this is clearly not the right role for him.

He'd be a better Alex Cross than Tyler Perry, that's right I said it.

Watching Matthew Fox kill Tyler Perry would make my day. Too bad that won't happen.
