Oh, John McClane, you just can't seem to avoid trouble can you? By the time we got to his fourth incredibly bad day, 2007's 'Live Free or Die Hard,' a wrench was thrown into the proceedings when McClane (Bruce Willis) had to save his daughter Lucy (played by the lovely Mary Elizabeth Winstead) from techno-terrorists. The next entry into the franchise, the unfortunately titled 'A Good Day to Die Hard,' shifts the focus to McClane's son Jack (Jai Courtney). Those of us who found Mary Elizabeth Winstead to be one of the only salvageable elements of 'Live Free or Die Hard' were rather disappointed to hear this. Turns out the studio was well aware of ME's appeal and appear to have brought her back for the new film. This was rumored initially, and then confirmed by the latest set photos from Turkey. 'A Good Day to Die Hard' hits theaters February 14th, 2013.
As much as I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead, I'm not sure she will be able to save the new 'Die Hard.' I freely admit that I am giving into to my own pessimism, but I hated 'Live Free or Die Hard' and can't imagine how they are going to pump the last breaths of life out of the franchise for a fifth entry. This series has gotten so far away from where it started that it's almost a bad joke. Plus, so what's the story now? Both of McClane's kids are in peril? How awful is this family's luck? The only way your fortunes could be more consistently sour is if Liam Neeson was your father. Perhaps it will benefit the movie slightly if Winstead is allowed to now be a mega-badass on par with her dad and must save her brother. I just hope they aren't grooming them for an attempt to pass the torch, because I could not abide a film about just the kids. 'Die Hard Babies?' I don't know, maybe my distaste for the last film is clouding my judgement. What do you guys think?
Are you excited Winstead will appear in 'A Good Day to Die Hard?' Is anyone legitimately anticipating this movie?

Comment by Alkunkunka on August 11, 2012 at 9:14am I love this franchise, not particularly hating any of the movies (though finding the 2nd one a bit underwhelming). LOVED Live Free. Hopes are up for this one.
Comment by Negro on August 10, 2012 at 10:41pm Been a fan of the Die Hard films for long than should be allowed, and I enjoyed the last film a bit more than i thought I would. Seeing Cyril Raffaelli in an American film was topped only by Ms Winstead's involvement. I agree that Willis himself just seemed too calm , but I suppose that part of me that loved 80's action films keeps me from hating the film. Looking forward to seeing Ms Winstead again as well as how the current( and hopefully last) Die Hard film stacks up.

Comment by gorillahandz on August 9, 2012 at 4:37pm I wish this franchise would die hard.
Comment by Yakuza01 on August 9, 2012 at 1:58pm @ Fredrick Douglas Hall II nah, I don't think Pryor would fit Mos Def's charater well. Now if they brought in Mark Pillow, well that would have brought the movie to a whole new level (read epic).
Comment by Fredrick Douglas Hall II on August 9, 2012 at 1:28pm @Yakuza01 Seriously? You managed to bring up one of the few Bruce Willis action movies actually worse than Die Hard 4. Shoot, if that's the case why don't you petition to have them use spare footage of Richard Pryor from Superman 3 and make him his retarded black sidekick?
Comment by Adam Meilstrup on August 9, 2012 at 12:07pm I enjoyed the last Die Hard. There wasn't anything wrong with it???
Comment by Yakuza01 on August 9, 2012 at 10:57am Didn't like the last one at all. Willis just seemed to go through the motions and you didn't feel any threat from the villain. John Mclain just had him beat mentally from the get go. It was like a man teasing a kid when they had their verbal confrontations. This is not so much criticism on Olyphant, who I like as an actor, but more on how his part was written.
To me, the unofficial Die Hard 4 movie will always be 16 blocks. With some minor/major tweaks to the plot of course, it would have been a good follow up to the previous 3. It followed the premise of being confined within a specific space (ok, I guess the third one sort of broke away from it). The fact that the villains were crooked cops would have brought a new twist on the character of John Mclain (how would he deal with going against his own people?) and would have been more 'believable' (I know, it's Die Hard) since at his age, he is not going to go against a sophisticated, well trained terrorist group or former special forces (Die Hard 2). The character of Jack Mosley seemed like a logical progression of Mclain. In fact, at the start of in Die Hard 3, he is already there, a has been who hasn't gotten his act together.
The whole idea of having the kids being such an integral part of the plot seems silly (or at least the way it was done in the last one). I wonder if Bonnie Bedelia will make a cameo in this next one. Maybe, she will take out a bunch of bad guys with a gatling gun and give Mclain a thumbs up as she winks at him. Oh silly me, of course they are going to recast her role with a much more age-appropriate actress. Bring in Megan Fox as Holly Gennaro. Come on, who is with me here?! *make high five sign*
Comment by Alex Kramer on August 9, 2012 at 10:53am these titles are getting dumber and dumber.
Comment by RickC on August 9, 2012 at 10:26am I'm not getting why everyone is so down on Die Hard/McClane. If it weren't for DH 2, it's not that fucking wild to think a cop gets stuck in a building and outsmarts/outlucks terrorists (somewhat believable, mostly not). DH-Venegance, the brother of the fucker he dropped in the first movie comes after him, and also steals money (makes the most sense of any of them)...and the last one, he is just a nosy stubborn old cop who wants to prove he can get shit done (barring the unnecessary CGI plane hopping).
Basically, I just don't get why a whole movie is derided cuz of a 2 minute sequence that, when in action, is kind of awesome?
He's John McClane, not Batman or James Bond! Shut your mouth, Michael Scott, nobody cares.
P.S. - LVDH (DH 4) is only good when watching the unrated version with all of the swearing. Cuz then it's DH. I'm not talking about the vanilla piece of shit the producers/studio put out for grabbing cash.
