It didn't take long after the release of Quentin Tarantino's 'Kill Bill: Vol. 2' for talk of a third installment to crop up. It was ridiculous speculation...until Tarantino himself actually started talking about his plans for making 'Kill Bill Vol. 3.' Some of his collaborators were even backing him on it, making it seem as if it was at least a definite item on his future movie checklist. However, when 'Inglourious Basterds' was announced as his followup movie, things looked dicey for 'KB3,' and now with 'Django Unchained' following that, the outlook for a third 'Kill Bill' has become exceedingly grim. Now, possibly the final nail in the coffin for the project came from Tarantino's own lips during a 'Django' Q&A. Here's what he said when asked about the status of 'Kill Bill: Vol. 3'...

"I don’t know if there’s ever going to be a Kill Bill. Vol 3. We’ll see, probably not though.”

So...noncommittal with a heavy dose of doubt. As much of a fan of Tarantino's films as I am, I can't say I'm wildly disappointed about this. I dig the two 'Kill Bill' movies as one film, mainly because they tell one complete story. True, I like the first half more than the second, but they were really meant to be one filmic saga. It is for this reason that the mere concept of a third chapter baffles me. What was the premise behind it? Let's look at how we left things. The Bride got her revenge and, more importantly, Bill is dead. He has in fact been killed so the thought of a story continuation would, at the very least, require a title change. Tarantino is a frantic guy when it comes to how he conceives of his projects, and he is notorious for discussing ideas for films that will probably never get made. For example, where is that Vega Brothers flick? The fact that he doesn't definitively state whether 'Kill Bill: Vol. 3' is all dead or only mostly dead leaves, I suppose, a faint glimmer of hope. However, I'd say at this point we need to give up the ghost.

What do you guys think? Should we abandon hope for 'Kill Bill: Vol. 3?' Are you at all disappointed?

QT has said that if he did a 3rd film then it would most likely be about Vernita Green's daughter seeking revenge against the Bride. While I agree that the first 2 films told a very complete story, I love the idea of an antagonist who actually has a legitimate reason to hate the protagonist and would make the audience question who they should be rooting for. Angel season 3 explored a somewhat similar idea with the Holtz/Angel conflict, though Holtz wasn't as sympathetic since Angel had truly changed.

What point would there be to Kill Bill Vol. 3? The story was finished. Nothing more needed to be said. I think it mess up the whole structure of the other two films if a third film would be made.

How about Tarantino making a complete film next.  Give me something to love and validate his stature as a filmmaker in my eyes because after all, I am the center of the universe!

I thought the idea was that Kill Bill 3 was gonna revolve around the daughter of Vernita Green growing up and deciding to have a revenge story of her own against the bride. I think it would've been interesting, especially if Tarantino infused some western/unforgiven vibe into it with the old bride and her daughter.

All in all though, I love the Kill Bill movies, and nothing can take that away from me, so it doesn't make a difference whether a 3rd one is made or not.

Doesn't it seem totally unecessary to make a Kill Bill vol.3. The story is over, just move on to better things now.
