If it's crap ... We'll tell you
Lovely leading lady Kate Beckinsale has been offered one of the female lead roles in the forthcoming 'Total Recall' reimagining, sources at Deadline NY say. More specifically, that she's been offered the role of Lori, the lead character's wife (who may or may not be who she says she is). Played by Sharon Stone in the 1990 film, Lori's identity as a spy and girlfriend of the main villain is revealed when Quaid's repressed memories are accidentally restored. The casting news has come under accusations of nepotism however, as Beckinsale is married to 'Recall' director Len Wiseman (who also directed her in the 'Underworld' series of movies). Hey - sometimes it's good to be the king.
In addition to Beckinsale, the two female lead roles have attracted the attention of a slew of beautiful actresses, including rumors of Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson both being contenders for the role of freedom fighter (and love interest) Melina. While it appears that the majority of the Mars subplot has been removed from the film (which now centers around two warring nations - Euromerica and New Shanghai), and there is a new villain (an ambitious leader played by Bryan Cranston), it seems that both the main female roles remained intact. No news yet on who will play the three-breasted bar patron (c'mon, we know you're all thinking it), but we'll keep you posted.
'Total Recall', starring Colin Farell and Bryan Cranston, is slated for release on Aug. 3rd, 2012.
