January Jones May Not Return For 'Days Of Future Past'

So far the production of 'X-Men: Days of the Future Past' has been marked by returns. Bryan Singer is returning to the franchise to direct for the first time since 2003's 'X2.' Also, we know that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are coming back to play the future versions of Professor X and Magneto. Not only that, but Hugh Jackman will purportedly also be reprising his role as Wolverine in the upcoming sequel to 'X-Men: First Class.' Today's news on the other hand involves someone who might not be returning for 'Days of Future Past.' While at the Sundance Film Festival, January Jones, who played Emma Frost in Matthew Vaughn's 'X-Men: First Class,' was asked whether we would be seeing her again in 'Days of Future Past.' Her response cast quite a bit of doubt on that prospect...

"I don’t know that I’m in it, I don’t think Emma’s in this one.  Well they haven’t told me if I am (laughs).  I wouldn’t put it past them though, I got the script for the first one on the airplane on the way there.  It’s called Days of Future Past I think, and I think it’s more about James [McAvoy] and Michael [Fassbender] and then Patrick [Stewart] and Ian [McKellan], and I think it’s gonna go back and forth with those so I don’t think Emma’s in those bits.  I don’t know, I really don’t know.”

So at this point her absence from 'Days of Future Past' is only as certain as her return, which is to say not certain at all. Also, from Jones' quote, it would appear that just because she hasn't been contacted by the filmmakers yet is not a definitive clue that she won't be in the new movie. That being said, I really hope she won't be in the new movie. First of all, to the best of my knowledge, Emma Frost has nothing to do with this particular story arc. She could be shoehorned in with little effort, but it is not vitally important to the plot of the next film that she is there. The other item to consider here is January Jones' flat, wooden performance in 'First Class.' I have to say I'm thrilled at the possibility of her not returning as she was easily the worst part of the movie for me. I'm not saying January Jones is necessarily a bad actress, but given just how insufferable she made Emma Frost, I will not be shedding any tears if her name is not among the cast list for 'Days of Future Past.'

What do you guys think? Do you think we will see Emma Frost in 'Days of Future Past?' Would anyone be disappointed if January Jones doesn't return?

Her facial movement range makes Kristen Stewart look like Jim Carry.

Finally, some good news for a change.

I think the fact that she isn't a great actress helps her in Mad Men, but she was hardly even necessary in First Class.

Even though I didn't like her performance, the last scene of First Class was Eric recruiting Emma to his team, so I'd like to see her again just for continuity's sake.

When I first saw the picture I thought this was news about the new Mad Men season! xD (Returns in April btw)

I could do without her in the movie and I would say January Jones is a bad actress.

I'm actually pretty glad to hear she may not be returning. Her performance in "First Class" was terrible, so yeah, I wasn't eager with anticipation to see her reprise her role in the first place. If you ask me, good riddance.

January Jones was given no material (and horrible CGI during the diamond bed scene) to work with...so even if she does get an offer, I hope she would use it for her dog's excrement.

I'd like to see Emma Frost in the movie. Those of you who have read the comic will recall that the X-Men and the Brotherhood have a battle for the life of Senator Robert Kelly. Most of the members of the Brotherhood in that story (Pyro, Blob, Destiny) aren't going to appear, so it would be fine by me if Emma were to be a part of the movie's Brotherhood.
Having said that, I want Emma Frost to be in the movie, not January Jones. This is one instance in which a recasting is entirely justified. Just replace her with a more capable actress and we're golden.
