Marvel's headstart on DC in terms of establishing a cinematic universe for its characters is staggering. The Avengers have all had their own individuals movies, two in the case of Iron Man, have enjoyed a wildly successful onscreen collaboration, and are now settling in to phase two of their solo films. Meanwhile, DC can't secure a director for 'Justice League' and aren't even in the logistic stages on its missing individual films. Earlier this week, the rumor that Ben Affleck would direct The Justice League movie was put to bed, and now a far more troubling rumor has surfaced. According to one source, which claims to have an insider who is "close to the project," Warner Brother is now looking at Brett Ratner ('Tower Heist') as a potential helmer for the massive undertaking. The nameless insider had this to say...
"The studio is very pleased with the work that Brett [Ratner] has done as a producer and director on past projects. They are now very interested in seeing what he can do with helping finally bring this group of iconic superheroes to the big screen!"
How to put this delicately? NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Brett Ratner directing 'Justice League' will be definitive proof that Warner Brothers doesn't give a rat's ass if 'Justice League' is any good. Let's just say he's a director encumbered by talent and vision, but his movies tend to make money. Judging by the quote, that's all WB cares about, so this would be the epitome of those safe bets I was talking about with directors for DC projects. The only thing that keeps me from flying into full-on rage at this story is that this source is nearly as far from credible as it gets. In fact, the only way I believe that this is an actual source within the studio is if this "leak" is in fact a way for WB to gauge fan reaction to this exceptionally bad choice. If that's the case, let us add our dissent to the ranks.
What do you guys think? Anybody want to make a case for why Ratner should direct 'Justice League?' If not, who would be your choice?

Comment by Happy Birthday Roboto on August 31, 2012 at 4:36am Well I say we all approve this to see if Warners will actually be dumb enough to give him the job!
Seriously though you'd have thought that Warners would have learnt their lesson from Batman & Robin and become a lot more careful with the choice of directors!
If you're going to be foolish with your business you deserve to fail!
Comment by RunningOnEmpty on August 31, 2012 at 3:47am Well, there goes the last of my interest in this project. *Waits patiently for The Avengers 2*
Comment by Chad Ehrhart on August 30, 2012 at 12:37pm So DC and Warner Brothers is completely out of touch. Sigh.
Comment by CalvinC on August 30, 2012 at 12:20pm Might as well not make the movie.
Comment by randy on August 30, 2012 at 12:15pm This is really as bad as they can go, he would make the most boring and generic JLA movie thought possible, it wouldn't be good, yet it wouldn't even be bad enough to be memorable for that either.
Comment by The Film Rebellion on August 30, 2012 at 12:02pm No. No! Oh please God no! Noooooooo!
