Is the fall of Pixar's brilliance sooner than we think?

Oh man I love Pixar. Seriously, can they do no wrong? Ten movies, countless shorts, all of them of high quality. So why the title? Well I just heard about the announcement of the sequel to Monsters Inc, cleverly titled: Monsters Inc. 2.

Rumours of this movie have been on and off for the past year, and now it has been confirmed and given a release date:
NOVEMBER 16TH, 2012

Woah, woah, woah. Hold on there Pixar. I thought you already had a movie coming out in 2012. Newt. And didn't you have two movies coming out next year? Cars 2 and The Bear and the Bow? Well let me just grab my microscope and do some searching around and...AHA!
Hmm, Newt has been moved to TBA. So methinks that means 2013. The Bear and the Bow is now called Brave.
Up, Brave, Newt. Trend?

Well Brave has been moved to Newt's previous date: June 15th, 2012. Now Cars 2 is the only one coming out next year. So now we have one movie next year, two in 2012, and one in 2013.

Strange, why all the changes in release dates guys? Brave was in the works, and now you push it back a year? And then shove Newt back a year again for Monsters Inc 2?
You stupid monkey! It just means they want to put aside these movies to put all their effort in that movie so it can be another brilliant sequel, like Toy Story 2 was.
That's all well and good. But I want to see new stories. New characters. New worlds. Now there's Toy Story 3 in a few months, Cars 2 next year, and Monsters Inc. 2 the year after. With only one original work coming out in those three years!

Okay, maybe I'm being too paranoid. I would love to think Pixar isn't taking the path of hoping that if they just make sequels to their beloved movies then that'll be enough to please fans like me. I mean, it is good to see they're not justing shoving Monsters Inc 2 among all the other movies, and they are pushing the others a year back so they do get the care they deserve.

I guess it's up in the air now. We'll see it all unfold within three years. But in my opinion, I may flinch a bit if in a year I hear "Pixar has just announced The Incredibles 2 to be released in 2013!"
What do you guys think?

Every animation studio has its Golden Age. I guess Pixar's is over.

I have a three strike rule when it comes to companies like Pixar. So far they have hit nothing but home runs with the exception of Cars (which was not a bad movie at all, just not Pixar quality). So with no strikes against them they have my attention for at least 3 or 4 more years.

As long as they're all high in quality, I could care less what they release.

This is the first time I'm hearing anything about Newt and Brave. I can see why you'd be worried, but I think it'll only be fair to judge Pixar's grip on things only AFTER Toy Story 3. We've seen how well they can make a sequel (Toy Story 2) let's see if they can patch together a perfectly good trilogy. I'd say to wait for Toy Story 3, and if it's crap, bite your fingernails and get ready for a few years of some ole' bullshit.

@Dakotah
I think it's Brad Bird's live action (no joke) version of 1906 San Fransisco earthquake.

It makes me mad, that Newt is canceled. Really excited for it

Nah, it won't be a fail, but i got a question, the company was making something else called "1906" in 2012, huh? Can someone tell me, i looked it up on IMDB.

FM: Look at the bright side of life, you might not have made it to Pixar, but at least you now own a fancy Iron Man Helmet

As someone who was on track to work at Pixar (before I had to leave art school for financial reasons) and still knows a few animators and TD's there, I can tell you for a fact that Pixar is no longer what it used to be. When Disney parked their armored cars full of cash on Pixar's front lawn and bought them out, it was like whiplash - suddenly, the film studio that used to value original stories above all else became Disney v2.0, even lending to a lot of the artists there nicknaming it "Pixaren't".

They originally told them that it would be business as usual and that Disney wouldn't be stepping in to change things, but within a few weeks they starting pulling animators off of new projects and starting their own agenda. Animators who were working with cutting edge animation were suddenly re-composing scenes from Toy Story 1 (which used outdated technology and is a 15 year old film) so that Disney could make a quick buck by re-releasing it in 3D. Then, they pulled more off to start working on Toy Story II in 3D. Then they announced that they would be doing Toy Story 3, then they announced Cars 2, then they announced Monsters, Inc 2 (which I've known about for months and months), and so on. They're actually pushing back productions of new films, just so that they can fill their pocketbooks with sequel money.

As a result, they're currently hemorrhaging talent. A lot of the really talented animators who have been there for years are leaving for other companies, or simply quitting to find something else. The overall feeling in the company (at least according to my friends) is that it's the end of an era, and they don't like what the company represents now. As Pixar animators are leaving, Disney is replacing them with their own animators from their failed 3D animation company.

Hope that helps explain the whole fiasco. :)
