Is Legendary Pictures Resurrecting Godzilla?

From MovieWeb.com -

Our friends over at Bloody Disgusting stumbled upon some interesting news this morning. According to their sources, Legendary Pictures is gearing up to resurrect Japan's most famous giant monster Godzilla.

Details are sketchy, though it seems early discussions have begun. One thing that seems certain is that this will not be a sequel to Roland Emmerich's 1998 Godzilla, which has been mocked relentlessly by its Japanese counterparts in recent films such as Godzilla: Final Wars. It's safe to say that we are looking at what those in the industry like to call a "reboot".

While this news is still fresh and out of the box, there's no word on exactly what we can expect. Bloody Disgusting is on the case, though. And we will let you know when we hear more from them.

My own words -

Legendary pictures has made some great films, including the resurrection of batman to movie theaters. If they are resurrecting Godzilla with honor and dignity to the original Japanese films, I'd definitely go see it. It would definitely make up for that piece of shit that was released in 1998.

That film's monster was a piece of crap as well. A giant lizard that burps hot air that destroys cars, is a coward, hermaphrodite, and is easily killed! But before that monster design was approved, the late Stan Winston made a design of the monster that was more respectable to his Japanese counterpart. He even sculpted this model.

Now THAT is how you do Godzilla justice for an American audience! If Legendary pictures DOES make a Godzilla film, he better look like that!!

The ONLY thing I liked about the American Godzilla was the Godzilla.

well i don’t approach people who think like Ownin'O'brien and Hero with eloquence. to me they sound like a lot like other people who hate the original kong because "it has a stupid puppet for a monster" or "it's black and white" yet kong is one of the best fantasy films ever made, i also am a big fan of the 1950's cult sci-fi monster flicks. most of the time if i see a fake looking monster i don’t care, is it any more fake than a digital effect? as for the way godzilla looks, the suit looked great until budgets were getting cut in the early 70's and had to use the same suit for every film and started to fall apart. the suit they made for the films in the 80s and 90's looked great and it just looks better when there is actually something in front of the camera opposed to a digital effect.

It Could work, but they should really take a Star Trek approach on this one, they should pay attention to the source material, get someone who's a fan and respects the source material to write it and get a good director, and we might have a darn good creature feature.
